Romans 1:22

Professing themselves to be wise
The learned men among the Gentiles first called themselves (sofoi) , "Sophi", wise men: and afterwards, to cover their wretched pride and vanity, (filosofoi) , "Philosophers", lovers of wisdom; but notwithstanding all their arrogance, their large pretensions to wisdom, and boast of it

they became fools;
they appeared to be so; they showed themselves to be such in those very things they prided themselves with the knowledge of: as, for instance, Socrates, after he had asserted the unity of God, and is said to die a martyr for the truth; yet one of the last actions of his life was sacrificing a cock to Aesculapius, at least he desired his friend Crito to do it.

20 Pues, desde la creación del mundo, todos han visto los cielos y la tierra. Por medio de todo lo que Dios hizo, ellos pueden ver a simple vista las cualidades invisibles de Dios: su poder eterno y su naturaleza divina. Así que no tienen ninguna excusa para no conocer a Dios.

21 Es cierto, ellos conocieron a Dios pero no quisieron adorarlo como Dios ni darle gracias. En cambio, comenzaron a inventar ideas necias sobre Dios. Como resultado, la mente les quedó en oscuridad y confusión.

22 Afirmaban ser sabios pero se convirtieron en completos necios.

23 Y, en lugar de adorar al Dios inmortal y glorioso, rindieron culto a ídolos que ellos mismos se hicieron con forma de simples mortales, de aves, de animales de cuatro patas y de reptiles.

24 Entonces Dios los abandonó para que hicieran todas las cosas vergonzosas que deseaban en su corazón. Como resultado, usaron sus cuerpos para hacerse cosas viles y degradantes entre sí.
