Ezequiel 32

Lamento por el faraón

1 El día primero del mes duodécimo del año duodécimo, el SEÑOR me dirigió la palabra:

2 «Hijo de hombre, entona este lamento dedicado al faraón, rey de Egipto:»“Pareces un león entre las naciones;pareces un monstruo marinochapoteando en el río;con tus patas enturbias el aguay revuelves sus corrientes.

3 »”Así dice el SEÑOR omnipotente:»”‘Aunque estés entre numerosos pueblos,tenderé sobre ti mi redy te atraparé con ella.

4 Te arrastraré por tierra,y en pleno campo te dejaré tendido.Dejaré que sobre ti se posentodas las aves del cielo.Dejaré que con tu carnese sacien todas las bestias salvajes.

5 Desparramaré tu carne por los montes,y con tu carroña llenaré los valles.

6 Con tu sangre empaparé la tierrahasta la cima de las montañas;con tu sangre llenarélos cauces de los ríos.

7 Cuando te hayas consumido,haré que el cielo se oscurezcay se apaguen las estrellas;cubriré el sol con una nube,y no brillará más la luna.

8 Por ti haré que se oscurezcantodos los astros luminosos de los cielos,y que tu país quede envuelto en las tinieblas.Lo afirma el SEÑOR omnipotente.

9 »”’Cuando yo haga que la noticia de tu destrucción llegue hasta tierras que tú no conocías, haré temblar a muchas naciones.

10 También haré que por tu causa muchos pueblos queden consternados. Cuando yo esgrima mi espada delante de ellos, sus reyes se estremecerán. En el día de tu debacle, en todo momento temblarán de miedo por temor a perder la vida.

11 »”’Así dice el SEÑOR omnipotente: La espada del rey de Babilonia vendrá contra ti.

12 Haré que tu pueblo numeroso caiga a filo de espada, empuñada por los guerreros más crueles entre las naciones. Ellos arrasarán la soberbia de Egipto, y toda su multitud será derrotada.

13 Voy a destruir a todo el ganado que pasta junto a las aguas abundantes, y estas nunca más serán enturbiadas por hombres ni animales.

14 Entonces dejaré que las aguas se asienten y que corran tranquilas, como el aceite. Lo afirma el SEÑOR omnipotente.

15 Cuando convierta en desolación la tierra de Egipto, y la despoje de todo lo que hay en ella, y hiera a todos los que la habitan, entonces sabrán que yo soy el SEÑOR’”.

16 »Este es el lamento que las ciudades de las naciones entonarán sobre Egipto y toda su multitud. Lo afirma el SEÑOR omnipotente».

17 En el día quince del mes duodécimo del año duodécimo, el SEÑOR me dirigió la palabra:

18 «Hijo de hombre, entona un lamento sobre las multitudes de Egipto, y junto con las ciudades de las naciones más poderosas hazlas descender con los que bajan a la fosa, a las regiones más profundas.

19 Pregúntales: “¿Se creen acaso más privilegiados que otros? ¡Pues bajen y tiéndanse entre los paganos!”

20 Y caerán entre los que murieron a filo de espada. Ya tienen la espada en la mano: ¡que se arrastre a Egipto y a sus multitudes!

21 En medio del abismo, los guerreros más fuertes y valientes hablarán de Egipto y de sus aliados. Y dirán: “¡Ya han descendido a la fosa! ¡Yacen tendidos entre los paganos que murieron a filo de espada!”

22 »Allí está Asiria, con toda su multitud en torno a su sepulcro. Todos ellos murieron a filo de espada.

23 Todos los que sembraban el terror en la tierra de los vivientes yacen muertos, víctimas de la espada. Ahora están sepultados en lo más profundo de la fosa, ¡tendidos alrededor de su tumba!

24 »Allí está Elam, con toda su multitud en torno a su sepulcro. Todos ellos murieron a filo de espada. Todos los que sembraban el terror en la tierra de los vivientes bajaron como paganos a lo más profundo de la fosa. Yacen tendidos sin honor entre los que descendieron a la fosa.

25 A Elam le han preparado una cama en medio de los muertos, entre los paganos que murieron a filo de espada y que ahora rodean su tumba. Ellos sembraron el terror en la tierra de los vivientes, pero ahora yacen tendidos sin honor entre los que descendieron a la fosa. Allí quedaron, entre gente que murió asesinada.

26 »Allí están Mésec y Tubal, con toda su multitud en torno a su sepulcro. Todos ellos son paganos, muertos a filo de espada porque sembraron el terror en la tierra de los vivientes.

27 No yacen con los héroes caídos de entre los paganos, que bajaron al abismo con sus armas de guerra y que tienen sus espadas bajo la cabeza. El castigo de sus pecados cayó sobre sus huesos, porque estos héroes sembraron el terror en la tierra de los vivientes.

28 »Ahí estarás tú, Egipto, en medio de los paganos, quebrado y sepultado junto con los que murieron a filo de espada.

29 »Allí está Edom, con sus reyes y príncipes. A pesar de todo su poder, también ellos yacen tendidos junto a los que murieron a filo de espada. Yacen entre los paganos, con los que descendieron a la fosa.

30 »Allí están todos los príncipes del norte, y todos los de Sidón. A pesar del terror que sembraron con su poderío, también ellos bajaron, envueltos en deshonra, con los que murieron a filo de espada. Son paganos, y ahora yacen tendidos entre los que murieron a filo de espada, en medio de los que descendieron a la fosa.

31 »El faraón los verá y se consolará de la muerte de toda su gente, pues él y todo su ejército morirán a filo de espada. Lo afirma el SEÑOR omnipotente.

32 »Aunque yo hice que el faraón sembrara el terror en la tierra de los vivientes, él y todo su ejército serán sepultados entre los paganos, con los que murieron a filo de espada. Lo afirma el SEÑOR omnipotente».

Chapter 32

The fall of Egypt. (1-16) It is like that of other nations. (17-32)

Verses 1-16 It becomes us to weep and tremble for those who will not weep and tremble for themselves. Great oppressors are, in God's account, no better than beasts of prey. Those who admire the pomp of this world, will wonder at the ruin of that pomp; which to those who know the vanity of all things here below, is no surprise. When others are ruined by sin, we have to fear, knowing ourselves guilty. The instruments of the desolation are formidable. And the instances of the desolation are frightful. The waters of Egypt shall run like oil, which signifies there should be universal sadness and heaviness upon the whole nation. God can soon empty those of this world's goods who have the greatest fulness of them. By enlarging the matters of our joy, we increase the occasions of our sorrow. How weak and helpless, as to God, are the most powerful of mankind! The destruction of Egypt was a type of the destruction of the enemies of Christ.

Verses 17-32 Divers nations are mentioned as gone down to the grave before Egypt, who are ready to give her a scornful reception; these nations had been lately ruined and wasted. But though Judah and Jerusalem were about this time ruined and laid waste, yet they are not mentioned here. Though they suffered the same affliction, and by the same hand, yet the kind design for which they were afflicted, and the mercy God reserved for them, altered its nature. It was not to them a going down to the pit, as it was to the heathen. Pharaoh shall see, and be comforted; but the comfort wicked ones have after death, is poor comfort, not real, but only in fancy. The view this prophecy gives of ruined states shows something of this present world, and the empire of death in it. Come and see the calamitous state of human life. As if men did not die fast enough, they are ingenious at finding out ways to destroy one another. Also of the other world; though the destruction of nations as such, seems chiefly intended, here is plain allusion to the everlasting ruin of impenitent sinners. How are men deceived by Satan! What are the objects they pursue through scenes of bloodshed, and their many sins? Surely man disquiets himself in vain, whether he pursues wealth, fame, power, or pleasure. The hour cometh, when all that are in their graves shall hear the voice of Christ, and shall come forth; those that have done good to the resurrection of life, and those that have done evil to the resurrection of damnation.

INTRODUCTION TO EZEKIEL 32

This chapter contains two more prophecies concerning the destruction of Egypt. The date of the first is given, Eze 22:1, in which the king of Egypt is compared to a large fish taken in a net, and brought to land, and left on it, to be the prey of the fowls of the air and beasts of the field, Eze 32:2-4, and the ruin of that kingdom is further amplified by the casting of it on the mountains and valleys; by the land flowing with its blood; by the darkness of the heavens; by the vexation in the hearts of many people; and by the amazement of kings and nations, Eze 32:5-10, the means and instruments of all which will be the king of Babylon and his army, Eze 32:11,12, the devastation made by him, which would be such as would cause lamentation in other nations, is described, Eze 32:13-16, then follows the other prophecy, whose date is given, Eze 32:17, the prophet is bid to lament the fall of Egypt, which is represented under the funeral of a corpse, Eze 32:18-20, saluted by those gone down to the grave before, or were become desolate; which are mentioned, to assure Egypt of its destruction, Eze 32:21 as the Assyrian empire, and all its provinces, Eze 32:22,23, the Persians and Medes, with all their dominions, Eze 32:24,25, the posterity of Meshech and Tubal, or the Scythians, those warlike people, Eze 32:26-28, the Edomites, the princes of the north, and all the Zidonians, Eze 32:29,30 which would be a comfort, though a poor one to the king of Egypt and his subjects, to have such company with them, Eze 32:31,32.
