Numbers 35:1

And the Lord spake to Moses
After he had described the borders of the land, and given instructions about the division of it among the several tribes, and named the persons that should be concerned in parting and putting it into the possession of the Israelites, he makes a provision for the Levites; for though they had no inheritance in the land as a tribe, yet it was proper they should have cities and houses to dwell in; for it would not be suitable that they should be always about the tabernacle, as they were in the wilderness; and it is concerning this the Lord is said to speak to Moses,

in the plains of Moab by Jordan, near Jericho:
where the Israelites now were, and had been for some time:

saying;
as follows.

1 En las llanuras de Moab, cerca del Jordán, a la altura de Jericó, el SEÑOR le dijo a Moisés:

2 «Ordénales a los israelitas que, de las heredades que reciban, entreguen a los levitas ciudades donde vivir, junto con las tierras que rodean esas ciudades.

3 De esta manera los levitas tendrán ciudades donde vivir y tierras de pastoreo para su ganado, rebaños y animales.

4 »Las tierras de pastoreo que entreguen a los levitas rodearán la ciudad, a quinientos metros de la muralla.

5 A partir de los límites de la ciudad, ustedes medirán mil metros hacia el este, mil hacia el sur, mil hacia el oeste y mil hacia el norte. La ciudad quedará en el centro. Estas serán las tierras de pastoreo de sus ciudades.
