2 Samuel 18:20

And Joab said unto him, thou shall not bear tidings this day,
&c.] Because Joab knew the tidings of Absalom's death would not be acceptable to the king; and Ahimaaz being a good man, and the son of a priest, for whom Joab had a respect, he would not send the tidings by him, which he was sensible would not recommend him to the king:

but thou shalt bear tidings another day;
when any salvation is wrought, or victory obtained, the tidings of which will be welcome:

but this day thou shall bear no tidings, because the king's son is
dead;
and thou must carry the news concerning his death, which it is not proper thou shouldest, being a priest, nor will it be to thine advantage.

18 Quando em vida, Absalão tinha levantado um monumento para si mesmo no vale do Rei, dizendo: “Não tenho nenhum filho para preservar a minha memória”. Por isso deu à coluna o seu próprio nome. Chama-se ainda hoje Monumento de Absalão.

19 Então Aimaás, filho de Zadoque, disse: “Deixa-me correr e levar ao rei a notícia de que o SENHOR lhe fez justiça, livrando-o de seus inimigos”.

20 “Não é você quem deve levar a notícia hoje”, disse-lhe Joabe. “Deixe isso para outra ocasião. Hoje não, porque o filho do rei morreu”.

21 Então Joabe ordenou a um etíope: “Vá dizer ao rei o que você viu”. O etíope inclinou-se diante de Joabe e saiu correndo para levar a notícia.

22 Todavia Aimaás, filho de Zadoque, disse de novo a Joabe: “Não importa o que aconteça, deixa-me ir com o etíope”.Joabe, porém, respondeu: “Por que está querendo tanto ir, meu filho? Você não receberá nenhuma recompensa pela notícia”.
