This is the preface to the ten commandments, and is the same with that in ( Exodus 20:2 ) , (See Gill on Exodus 20:2), and those commands are here delivered in the same order, and pretty near in the same words, with a little variation, and a few additions; which I shall only observe, and refer to ( Exodus 20:1-17 ) for the sense of the various laws.

4 O SENHOR falou com você face a face, do meio do fogo, no monte.
5 Naquela ocasião, eu fiquei entre o SENHOR e você para declarar-lhe a palavra do SENHOR, porque você teve medo do fogo e não subiu o monte. E ele disse:
6 “ ‘Eu sou o SENHOR, o teu Deus, que te tirei do Egito, da terra da escravidão.
7 “ ‘Não terás outros deuses além de mim.
8 “ ‘Não farás para ti nenhum ídolo, nenhuma imagem de qualquer coisa no céu, na terra ou nas águas debaixo da terra.
