Os Pecados de Jerusalém

1 Veio a mim esta palavra do SENHOR:

2 “Filho do homem, você a julgará? Você julgará essa cidade sanguinária? Então confronte-a com todas as suas práticas repugnantes

3 e diga: Assim diz o Soberano, o SENHOR: Ó cidade, que traz condenação sobre si mesma por derramar sangue em seu meio e por se contaminar fazendo ídolos!

4 Você se tornou culpada por causa do sangue que derramou e por ter se contaminado com os ídolos que fez. Você apressou o seu dia; chegou o fim dos seus anos. Por isso farei de você objeto de zombaria para as nações e de escárnio em todas as terras.

5 Tanto as nações vizinhas como as distantes zombarão de você, ó cidade infame e inquieta!

6 “Veja como cada um dos príncipes de Israel que aí está usa o seu poder para derramar sangue.

7 Em seu meio eles têm desprezado pai e mãe, oprimido o estrangeiro e maltratado o órfão e a viúva.

8 Você desprezou as minhas dádivas sagradas e profanou os meus sábados.

9 Em seu meio há caluniadores, prontos para derramar sangue; em seu meio há os que comem nos santuários dos montes e praticam atos lascivos;

10 em seu meio há aqueles que desonram a cama dos seus pais e aqueles que têm relações com as mulheres nos dias de sua menstruação.

11 Um homem comete adultério com a mulher do seu próximo, outro contamina vergonhosamente a sua nora, e outro desonra a sua irmã, filha de seu próprio pai.

12 Em seu meio há homens que aceitam suborno para derramar sangue; você empresta a juros, visando a lucro, e obtém ganhos injustos, extorquindo o próximo. E você se esqueceu de mim. Palavra do Soberano, o SENHOR.

13 “Mas você me verá bater as minhas mãos uma na outra contra os ganhos injustos que você obteve e contra o sangue que você derramou.

14 Será que a sua coragem suportará ou as suas mãos serão fortes para o que eu vou fazer no dia em que eu der a você o devido tratamento? Eu, o SENHOR, falei e o farei.

15 Dispersarei você entre as nações e a espalharei pelas terras; e darei fim à sua impureza.

16 Quando você tiver sido desonrada^[a] aos olhos das nações, você saberá que eu sou o SENHOR”.

17 E depois veio a mim esta palavra do SENHOR:

18 “Filho do homem, a nação de Israel tornou-se escória para mim; cobre, estanho, ferro e chumbo deixados na fornalha. Não passa de escória de prata.

19 Por isso, assim diz o Soberano, o SENHOR: Visto que vocês todos se tornaram escória, eu os ajuntarei em Jerusalém.

20 Assim como os homens ajuntam prata, cobre, ferro, chumbo e estanho numa fornalha a fim de fundi-los soprando fortemente o fogo, na minha ira e na minha indignação também ajuntarei vocês dentro da cidade e os fundirei.

21 Eu os ajuntarei e soprarei sobre vocês o fogo da minha ira, e vocês se derreterão.

22 Assim como a prata se derrete numa fornalha, também vocês se derreterão dentro dela e saberão que eu, o SENHOR, derramei a minha ira sobre vocês”.

23 De novo a palavra do SENHOR veio a mim. Disse ele:

24 “Filho do homem, diga a esta terra: Você é uma terra que não tem tido chuva nem aguaceiros^[b] no dia da ira.

25 Há nela uma conspiração de seus príncipes^[c] como um leão que ruge ao despedaçar sua presa; devoram pessoas, apanham tesouros e objetos preciosos e fazem muitas viúvas.

26 Seus sacerdotes cometem violência contra a minha lei e profanam minhas ofertas sagradas; não fazem distinção entre o sagrado e o comum; ensinam que não existe nenhuma diferença entre o puro e o impuro; e fecham os olhos quanto à guarda dos meus sábados, de maneira que sou desonrado no meio deles.

27 Seus oficiais são como lobos que despedaçam suas presas; derramam sangue e matam gente para obter ganhos injustos.

28 Seus profetas disfarçam esses feitos enganando o povo com visões falsas e adivinhações mentirosas. Dizem: ‘Assim diz o Soberano, o SENHOR’, quando o SENHOR não falou.

29 O povo da terra pratica extorsão e comete roubos; oprime os pobres e os necessitados e maltrata os estrangeiros, negando-lhes justiça.

30 “Procurei entre eles um homem que erguesse o muro e se pusesse na brecha diante de mim e em favor desta terra, para que eu não a destruísse, mas não encontrei nenhum.

31 Por isso derramarei a minha ira sobre eles e os consumirei com o meu grande furor; sofrerão as consequências de tudo o que fizeram. Palavra do Soberano, o SENHOR”.

Ezequiel 22 Commentary

Chapter 22

The sins of Jerusalem. (1-16) Israel is condemned as dross. (17-22) As the corruption is general, so shall be the punishment. (23-31)

Verses 1-16 The prophet is to judge the bloody city; the city of bloods. Jerusalem is so called, because of her crimes. The sins which Jerusalem stands charged with, are exceeding sinful. Murder, idolatry, disobedience to parents, oppression and extortion, profanation of the sabbath and holy things, seventh commandment sins, lewdness and adultery. Unmindfulness of God was at the bottom of all this wickedness. Sinners provoke God because they forget him. Jerusalem has filled the measure of her sins. Those who give up themselves to be ruled by their lusts, will justly be given up to be portioned by them. Those who resolve to be their own masters, let them expect no other happiness than their own hands can furnish; and a miserable portion it will prove.

Verses 17-22 Israel, compared with other nations, had been as the gold and silver compared with baser metals. But they were now as the refuse that is consumed in the furnace, or thrown away when the silver is refined. Sinners, especially backsliding professors, are, in God's account, useless and fit for nothing. When God brings his own people into the furnace, he sits by them as the refiner by his gold, to see that they are not continued there any longer than is fitting and needful. The dross shall be wholly separated, and the good metal purified. Let those who suffer pains, or lingering sickness, and find that their hearts can scarcely bear these light and momentary afflictions, take warning to flee from the wrath to come; for if these trials are not sanctified by the power of the Holy Spirit, to the cleansing their hearts and hands from sin, far worse things will come upon them.

Verses 23-31 All orders and degrees of men had helped to fill the measure of the nation's guilt. The people that had any power abused it, and even the buyers and sellers find some way to oppress one another. It bodes ill to a people when judgments are breaking in upon them, and the spirit of prayer is restrained. Let all who fear God, unite to promote his truth and righteousness; as wicked men of every rank and profession plot together to run them down.

Chapter Summary

INTRODUCTION TO EZEKIEL 22

In this chapter a catalogue or list of the sins of the Jews is given; a comparison of them to dross is made, and they are dealt with accordingly; and a complaint is lodged against all ranks and orders of men for their sins; on account of which, there being no intercessor for them, they are threatened with captivity and destruction. The prophet is ordered to judge them, and lay before them their abominable sins, Eze 22:1,2, of which a long list is given, as murder, idolatry; contempt of parents; oppression of the stranger, fatherless, and widow; negligence of holy things; profanation of the sabbath; tale bearing, lewdness and uncleanness of various sorts; bribery, usury, extortion, and dishonest gain, Eze 22:3-13 for which the Lord threatens to deal with them in a manner that would be intolerable to them; that he would carry them captive, and scatter them among the Heathen, Eze 22:14-16, they are compared to dross, and as such should be gathered into a furnace, and melted down, Eze 22:17-21, all ranks and orders of men are complained of, because of their sins, and threatened, Eze 22:23,24, the prophets for their voraciousness, rapine, murder, and lies, Eze 22:25,28, the priests, for their violation of the law, neglect of holy things, and profanation of the sabbath, Eze 22:26, the princes, for their cruelty, murder, and dishonest gain, Eze 22:27, the people of the land, for their oppression and robbery, Eze 22:29, and there being none to stand in the gap for them, the Lord threatens to pour out his wrath upon them, and consume them, Eze 22:30,31.
