1 Alors, les gens de Kirjath-Jearim vinrent, et firent monter l'arche de l'Éternel, et la mirent dans la maison d'Abinadab, sur le coteau, et ils consacrèrent Éléazar, son fils, pour garder l'arche de l'Éternel.

And the anshei Kiryat-Yearim came, and took up the Aron Hashem, and brought it into the bais Avinadav on the givah (hill), and set apart as kodesh El’azar bno to be shomer over the Aron Hashem.
2 Or, depuis le jour où l'arche de l'Éternel fut déposée à Kirjath-Jearim, il se passa un long temps; et il y avait vingt ans de cela, lorsque toute la maison d'Israël soupira après l'Éternel.

And it came to pass, while the Aron abode in Kiryat-Yearim, that the time was long; for it was esrim shanah; and kol Bais Yisroel mourned after Hashem.
3 Et Samuel parla à toute la maison d'Israël, en disant: Si vous retournez de tout votre cœur à l'Éternel, ôtez du milieu de vous les dieux étrangers et les Ashtharoth, et rangez votre cœur à l'Éternel, et servez-le lui seul, et il vous délivrera de la main des Philistins.

And Shmuel spoke unto kol Bais Yisroel, saying, If ye do return unto Hashem with all your hearts, put away the elohei hanekhar and Ashtarot from among you, commit your hearts unto Hashem, serve Him only; and He will deliver you out of the yad Pelishtim.
4 Alors les enfants d'Israël ôtèrent les Baalim et les Ashtharoth, et servirent l'Éternel seul.

Then the Bnei Yisroel did put away Baalim and Ashtarot, and served Hashem only.
5 Et Samuel dit: Assemblez tout Israël à Mitspa, et je prierai l'Éternel pour vous.

And Shmuel said, Gather kol Yisroel to Mitzpah, and I will make intercessory prayer and daven for you unto Hashem.
6 Ils s'assemblèrent donc à Mitspa, et y puisèrent de l'eau, qu'ils répandirent devant l'Éternel; et ils jeûnèrent ce jour-là, et dirent: Nous avons péché contre l'Éternel! Et Samuel jugea les enfants d'Israël à Mitspa.

And they gathered together at Mitzpah, and drew mayim, and poured it out before Hashem, and did a tzom on that day, and said there, We have sinned against Hashem. And Shmuel judged the Bnei Yisroel at Mitzpah.
7 Or, quand les Philistins eurent appris que les enfants d'Israël s'étaient assemblés à Mitspa, les princes des Philistins montèrent contre Israël. Et quand les enfants d'Israël l'eurent appris, ils eurent peur des Philistins;

And when the Pelishtim heard that the Bnei Yisroel were gathered together at Mitzpah, the rulers of the Pelishtim went up against Yisroel. And when the Bnei Yisroel heard it, they were afraid of the Pelishtim.
8 Et les enfants d'Israël dirent à Samuel: Ne cesse point de crier pour nous à l'Éternel, notre Dieu, afin qu'il nous délivre de la main des Philistins.

And the Bnei Yisroel said to Shmuel, Cease not to cry out unto Hashem Eloheinu for us, that He will save us out of the yad Pelishtim.
9 Alors Samuel prit un agneau de lait, et l'offrit tout entier à l'Éternel en holocauste; et Samuel cria vers l'Éternel pour Israël, et l'Éternel l'exauça.

And Shmuel took a suckling lamb, and offered him for an olah unto Hashem; and Shmuel cried out unto Hashem on behalf of Yisroel; and Hashem answered him.
10 Et il arriva, comme Samuel offrait l'holocauste, que les Philistins s'approchèrent pour combattre contre Israël; mais l'Éternel tonna avec grand bruit sur les Philistins en ce jour-là, et les mit en déroute, et ils furent battus devant Israël.

And as Shmuel was offering up the olah, the Pelishtim drew near to battle against Yisroel; but Hashem thundered with a kol gadol on that day upon the Pelishtim, and threw them into confusion and panic; and they were struck down before Yisroel.
11 Et les hommes d'Israël sortirent de Mitspa, et poursuivirent les Philistins, et les frappèrent jusqu'au-dessous de Beth-Car.

And the Anshei Yisroel went from Mitzpah, and pursued the Pelishtim, and struck them down, until they came to below Beit-Kar.
12 Alors Samuel prit une pierre, et la mit entre Mitspa et le rocher, et la nomma Ében-Ézer (pierre du secours), et dit: L'Éternel nous a secourus jusqu'ici.

Then Shmuel took one even (stone), and set it up between Mitzpah and Shen, and called the shem of it Even-Ezer, saying, Hitherto hath Hashem helped us.
13 Et les Philistins furent humiliés, et ils ne vinrent plus sur le territoire d'Israël; et la main de l'Éternel fut contre les Philistins pendant tout le temps de Samuel.

So the Pelishtim were subdued, and they came no more into the territory of Yisroel; and the yad Hashem was against the Pelishtim all the days of Shmuel.
14 Et les villes que les Philistins avaient prises sur Israël, retournèrent à Israël, depuis Ékron jusqu'à Gath, avec leur territoire. Israël les délivra de la main des Philistins, et il y eut paix entre Israël et les Amoréens.

And the towns which the Pelishtim had captured from Yisroel were restored to Yisroel, from Ekron even unto Gat; and the territory thereof did Yisroel deliver out of the yad Pelishtim. And there was shalom between Yisroel and HaEmori (the Amorites).
15 Et Samuel jugea Israël tous les jours de sa vie.

And Shmuel judged Yisroel all the days of his life.
16 Il allait tous les ans faire le tour de Béthel, et de Guilgal, et de Mitspa, et il jugeait Israël en tous ces lieux-là.

And he went from shanah b’shanah in circuit to Beit-El, and Gilgal, and Mitzpah, and judged Yisroel in all those places.
17 Puis il s'en retournait à Rama, car là était sa maison, et là il jugeait Israël; et il y bâtit un autel à l'Éternel.

And his teshuvah (return) was to Ramah; for there was his bais; and there he judged Yisroel; and there he built a Mizbe’ach unto Hashem.
