1 Chronicles 9

BBE 1 So all Israel was listed by their families; and, truly, they are recorded in the book of the kings of Israel. And Judah was taken away as prisoners to Babylon because of their sin. NIV 1 All Israel was listed in the genealogies recorded in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. They were taken captive to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness. BBE 2 Now the first to take up their heritage in their towns were: Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the Nethinim. NIV 2 Now the first to resettle on their own property in their own towns were some Israelites, priests, Levites and temple servants. BBE 3 And in Jerusalem there were living some of the sons of Judah, and of Benjamin, and of Ephraim and Manasseh; NIV 3 Those from Judah, from Benjamin, and from Ephraim and Manasseh who lived in Jerusalem were: BBE 4 Uthai, the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the sons of Perez, the son of Judah. NIV 4 Uthai son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, a descendant of Perez son of Judah. BBE 5 And of the Shilonites: Asaiah the oldest, and his sons. NIV 5 Of the Shelanites : Asaiah the firstborn and his sons. BBE 6 And of the sons of Zerah: Jeuel, and their brothers, six hundred and ninety. NIV 6 Of the Zerahites: Jeuel. The people from Judah numbered 690. BBE 7 And of the sons of Benjamin: Sallu, the son of Meshullam, Judah, the son of Hassenuah, NIV 7 Of the Benjamites: Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah; BBE 8 And Ibneiah, the son of Jeroham, and Elah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri, and Meshullam, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah; NIV 8 Ibneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi, the son of Mikri; and Meshullam son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah. BBE 9 And their brothers, in the list of their generations, nine hundred and fifty-six. All these men were heads of families, listed by the names of their fathers. NIV 9 The people from Benjamin, as listed in their genealogy, numbered 956. All these men were heads of their families. BBE 10 And of the priests: Jedaiah and Jehoiarib and Jachin NIV 10 Of the priests: Jedaiah; Jehoiarib; Jakin; BBE 11 And Azariah, the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the ruler of the house of God; NIV 11 Azariah son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the official in charge of the house of God; BBE 12 And Adaiah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasai, the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer; NIV 12 Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malkijah; and Maasai son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer. BBE 13 And their brothers, heads of their families, a thousand and seven hundred and sixty: able men, doing the work of the house of God. NIV 13 The priests, who were heads of families, numbered 1,760. They were able men, responsible for ministering in the house of God. BBE 14 And of the Levites: Shemaiah, the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari; NIV 14 Of the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, a Merarite; BBE 15 And Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah, the son of Mica, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph; NIV 15 Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal and Mattaniah son of Mika, the son of Zikri, the son of Asaph; BBE 16 And Obadiah, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah, the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who were living in the small towns of the Netophathites. NIV 16 Obadiah son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun; and Berekiah son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites. BBE 17 And the door-keepers: Shallum and Akkub and Talmon and Ahiman and their brothers: Shallum was the chief. NIV 17 The gatekeepers: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman and their fellow Levites, Shallum their chief BBE 18 Up till then they had been at the king's door to the east. They were door-keepers for the tents of the sons of Levi. NIV 18 being stationed at the King’s Gate on the east, up to the present time. These were the gatekeepers belonging to the camp of the Levites. BBE 19 And Shallum, the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brothers, of his family, the Korahites, were responsible for everything which had to be done in connection with the order of worship, keepers of the doors of the Tent; their fathers had had the care of the tents of the Lord, being keepers of the doorway. NIV 19 Shallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his fellow gatekeepers from his family (the Korahites) were responsible for guarding the thresholds of the tent just as their ancestors had been responsible for guarding the entrance to the dwelling of the LORD. BBE 20 In the past Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, had been ruler over them; may the Lord be with him! NIV 20 In earlier times Phinehas son of Eleazar was the official in charge of the gatekeepers, and the LORD was with him. BBE 21 Zechariah, the son of Meshelemiah, was keeper of the door of the Tent of meeting. NIV 21 Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was the gatekeeper at the entrance to the tent of meeting. BBE 22 There were two hundred and twelve whose business it was to keep the doorway. These were listed by families in the country places where they were living, whom David and Samuel the seer put in their responsible positions. NIV 22 Altogether, those chosen to be gatekeepers at the thresholds numbered 212. They were registered by genealogy in their villages. The gatekeepers had been assigned to their positions of trust by David and Samuel the seer. BBE 23 So they and their sons had the care of the doors of the house of the Lord, the house of the Tent, as watchers. NIV 23 They and their descendants were in charge of guarding the gates of the house of the LORD—the house called the tent of meeting. BBE 24 There were keepers of the doors on the four sides, to the east, west, north, and south. NIV 24 The gatekeepers were on the four sides: east, west, north and south. BBE 25 And their brothers, in the country places where they were living, were to come in every seven days to be with them from time to time. NIV 25 Their fellow Levites in their villages had to come from time to time and share their duties for seven-day periods. BBE 26 For the four chief door-keepers, who were Levites, had a special position, looking after the rooms and the store-houses of the house of God. NIV 26 But the four principal gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the responsibility for the rooms and treasuries in the house of God. BBE 27 Their sleeping-rooms were round the house of God, for they had the care of it, and were responsible for opening it morning by morning. NIV 27 They would spend the night stationed around the house of God, because they had to guard it; and they had charge of the key for opening it each morning. BBE 28 Certain of them had the care of the vessels used in worship, to keep an account of them when they came in and when they were taken out again. NIV 28 Some of them were in charge of the articles used in the temple service; they counted them when they were brought in and when they were taken out. BBE 29 And some of them were responsible for the holy things and for the vessels of the holy place, and the meal and the wine and the oil and the perfume and the spices. NIV 29 Others were assigned to take care of the furnishings and all the other articles of the sanctuary, as well as the special flour and wine, and the olive oil, incense and spices. BBE 30 And some of the sons of the priests were responsible for crushing the spices. NIV 30 But some of the priests took care of mixing the spices. BBE 31 And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, the oldest son of Shallum the Korahite, was responsible for cooking the flat cakes. NIV 31 A Levite named Mattithiah, the firstborn son of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with the responsibility for baking the offering bread. BBE 32 And some of their brothers, sons of the Kohathites, were responsible for the holy bread which was put in order before the Lord, to get it ready every Sabbath. NIV 32 Some of the Kohathites, their fellow Levites, were in charge of preparing for every Sabbath the bread set out on the table. BBE 33 And these were those who had the ordering of the music and songs, heads of families of the Levites, who were living in the rooms, and were free from other work, for their work went on day and night. NIV 33 Those who were musicians, heads of Levite families, stayed in the rooms of the temple and were exempt from other duties because they were responsible for the work day and night. BBE 34 These were heads of families of the Levites in their generations, chief men; they were living at Jerusalem. NIV 34 All these were heads of Levite families, chiefs as listed in their genealogy, and they lived in Jerusalem. BBE 35 And in Gibeon was living the father of Gibeon, Jeiel, whose wife's name was Maacah; NIV 35 Jeiel the father of Gibeon lived in Gibeon. His wife’s name was Maakah, BBE 36 And Abdon his oldest son, and Zur and Kish and Baal and Ner and Nadab NIV 36 and his firstborn son was Abdon, followed by Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab, BBE 37 And Gedor and Ahio and Zechariah and Mikloth NIV 37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah and Mikloth. BBE 38 Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. They were living with their brothers in Jerusalem opposite their brothers. NIV 38 Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. They too lived near their relatives in Jerusalem. BBE 39 And Ner was the father of Kish; and Kish was the father of Saul; and Saul was the father of Jonathan and Malchi-shua and Abinadab and Eshbaal. NIV 39 Ner was the father of Kish, Kish the father of Saul, and Saul the father of Jonathan, Malki-Shua, Abinadab and Esh-Baal. BBE 40 And the son of Jonathan was Merib-baal; and Merib-baal was the father of Micah. NIV 40 The son of Jonathan: Merib-Baal, who was the father of Micah. BBE 41 And the sons of Micah: Pithon and Melech and Tahrea and Ahaz. NIV 41 The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melek, Tahrea and Ahaz. BBE 42 And Ahaz was the father of Jarah; and Jarah was the father of Alemeth and Azmaveth and Zimri; and Zimri was the father of Moza. NIV 42 Ahaz was the father of Jadah, Jadah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth and Zimri, and Zimri was the father of Moza. BBE 43 And Moza was the father of Binea; and Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son. NIV 43 Moza was the father of Binea; Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son and Azel his son. BBE 44 And Azel had five sons, whose names are: Azrikam, his oldest son, and Ishmael and Sheariah and Obadiah and Hanan: these were the sons of Azel. NIV 44 Azel had six sons, and these were their names: Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
