The Message Bible MSG
New International Version NIV
19 Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king. He was king for two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Meshullemeth, the daughter of Haruz. She was from Jotbah.
19
Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem two years. His mother’s name was Meshullemeth daughter of Haruz; she was from Jotbah.
20 In God's opinion he lived an evil life, just like his father Manasseh.
20
He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, as his father Manasseh had done.
21 He followed in the footsteps of his father, serving and worshiping the same foul gods his father had served.
21
He followed completely the ways of his father, worshiping the idols his father had worshiped, and bowing down to them.
22 He totally deserted the God of his ancestors; he did not live God's way.
22
He forsook the LORD, the God of his ancestors, and did not walk in obedience to him.
23 Amon's servants revolted and assassinated him, killing the king right in his own palace.
23
Amon’s officials conspired against him and assassinated the king in his palace.
24 But the people, in their turn, killed the conspirators against King Amon and then crowned Josiah, Amon's son, as king.
24
Then the people of the land killed all who had plotted against King Amon, and they made Josiah his son king in his place.
25 The rest of the life and times of Amon is written in The Chronicles of the Kings of Judah.
25
As for the other events of Amon’s reign, and what he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah?
26 They buried Amon in his burial plot in the Garden of Uzza. His son Josiah became the next king.
26
He was buried in his tomb in the garden of Uzza. And Josiah his son succeeded him as king.
