1 Or, quand les hommes eurent commencé à se multiplier sur la face de la terre et que des filles leur furent nées,

And it came to pass, when HaAdam began to multiply on the face of ha’adamah, and banot were born unto them,
2 Les fils de Dieu virent que les filles des hommes étaient belles, et ils prirent des femmes d'entre toutes celles qui leur plurent.

That the bnei HaElohim saw the banot HaAdam that they were tovot; and they took them nashim of all which they chose.
3 Et l'Éternel dit: Mon esprit ne contestera point dans l'homme à toujours; dans son égarement il n'est que chair; ses jours seront de cent vingt ans.

And Hashem said, My Ruach [Hakodesh] shall not always strive with Adam, for that he also is basar: yet his yamim shall be a hundred and twenty shanah.
4 Les géants étaient sur la terre, en ce temps-là, et aussi dans la suite, parce que les fils de Dieu venaient vers les filles des hommes, et elles leur donnaient des enfants: ce sont ces hommes puissants qui, dès les temps anciens, furent des gens de renom.

HaNefilim were on ha’aretz in those yamim; and also after that, when the bnei HaElohim came in unto the banot HaAdam, and they bore children to them, the same became gibborim which were of old, men of renown.
5 Et l'Éternel vit que la malice de l'homme était grande sur la terre, et que toute l'imagination des pensées de son cœur n'était que mauvaise en tout temps.

And Hashem saw that the wickedness of HaAdam was great in ha’aretz and that every yetzer (inclination) of the machshevot (thoughts) of his lev was only rah (evil) continually.
6 Et l'Éternel se repentit d'avoir fait l'homme sur la terre, et il en fut affligé dans son cœur.

And Hashem relented that He had made HaAdam on ha’aretz, and He was hurt in His lev.
7 Et l'Éternel dit: J'exterminerai de dessus la terre l'homme que j'ai créé; depuis l'homme jusqu'au bétail, jusqu'au reptile, et jusqu'à l'oiseau des cieux; car je me repens de les avoir faits.

And Hashem said, I will wipe out HaAdam whom I have created from the face of ha’adamah; both Adam, and Behemah, and the Remes and the Oph HaShomayim; for I relent that I have made them.
8 Mais Noé trouva grâce aux yeux de l'Éternel.

But Noach found chen (grace, unmerited favor) in the eyes of Hashem.
9 Voici les descendants de Noé. Noé fut un homme juste, intègre, dans son temps; Noé marcha avec Dieu.

These are the toldot of Noach; Noach was an ish tzaddik and tamim among those of his time, and Noach’s halachah was with HaElohim.
10 Et Noé engendra trois fils, Sem, Cham et Japhet.

And Noach fathered three banim: Shem, Cham, and Yephet.
11 Et la terre était corrompue devant Dieu, et la terre était remplie de violence.

Ha’aretz also was corrupt before HaElohim, and ha’aretz was filled with chamas.
12 Et Dieu regarda la terre, et, voici, elle était corrompue; car toute chair avait corrompu sa voie sur la terre.

And Elohim looked upon ha’aretz, and, hinei, it was corrupt; for kol basar had corrupted his derech upon ha’aretz.
13 Et Dieu dit à Noé: La fin de toute chair est venue devant moi; car la terre a été remplie de violence par eux; et voici, je vais les détruire avec la terre.

And Elohim said unto Noach, The ketz (end) of kol basar is come before Me; for ha’aretz is filled with chamas because of them; and, hineni, I will destroy them with ha’aretz.
14 Fais-toi une arche de bois de gopher; tu feras l'arche par loges, et tu l'enduiras de bitume par dedans et par dehors.

Make thee a tevah (ark) of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the tevah (ark), and shalt coat it within and without with tar.
15 Et voici comment tu la feras: La longueur de l'arche sera de trois cents coudées, sa largeur de cinquante coudées, et sa hauteur de trente coudées.

And this is how thou shalt build it: the length of the tevah (ark) shall be three hundred cubits, the width of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
16 Tu feras une fenêtre à l'arche, et tu l'achèveras à une coudée par en haut; et tu mettras la porte de l'arche sur son côté; tu la feras avec un étage inférieur, un second, et un troisième.

A roof shalt thou make to the tevah (ark), and thou shalt finish it to a cubit from the top; and the door of the tevah (ark) shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third decks shalt thou make it.
17 Et moi, voici, je vais amener le déluge d'eaux sur la terre, pour détruire toute chair qui a souffle de vie, de dessous les cieux; tout ce qui est sur la terre, expirera.

And, hineni, I, even I, do bring a mabbul of waters upon ha’aretz, to destroy kol basar, wherein is the ruach chayyim, from under Shomayim; and everything that is in ha’aretz shall perish.
18 Mais j'établirai mon alliance avec toi; et tu entreras dans l'arche, toi, tes fils, ta femme, et les femmes de tes fils avec toi.

But with thee will I establish My brit (covenant); and thou shalt come into the tevah (ark), thou, and thy banim, and thy isha, and the nashim of thy banim with thee.
19 Et de tout ce qui vit d'entre toute chair, tu en feras entrer deux de chaque espèce dans l'arche pour les conserver en vie avec toi; ils seront mâle et femelle;

And of every living thing of kol basar, two of every kind shalt thou bring into the tevah (ark), to keep them alive with thee; they shall be zachar and nekevah.
20 Des oiseaux, selon leur espèce, et des bêtes selon leur espèce, de tout reptile du sol selon son espèce, deux de chaque espèce viendront vers toi pour que tu les conserves en vie.

Of birds after their kind, and of behemah after their kind, of every remes of ha’adamah after its kind, two of every kind shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
21 Et toi, prends de tout aliment qui se mange, et fais-en provision par-devers toi, afin que cela te serve de nourriture ainsi qu'à eux.

And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for ochel for thee, and for them.
22 Et Noé le fit; il fit tout ce que Dieu lui avait commandé.
22
Thus did Noach; according to all that Elohim commanded him, so did he.
