Isaiah 46

NRSA 1 Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols are on beasts and cattle; these things you carry are loaded as burdens on weary animals. NIV 1 Bel bows down, Nebo stoops low; their idols are borne by beasts of burden.The images that are carried about are burdensome, a burden for the weary. NRSA 2 They stoop, they bow down together; they cannot save the burden, but themselves go into captivity. NIV 2 They stoop and bow down together; unable to rescue the burden, they themselves go off into captivity. NRSA 3 Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all the remnant of the house of Israel, who have been borne by me from your birth, carried from the womb; NIV 3 “Listen to me, you descendants of Jacob, all the remnant of the people of Israel, you whom I have upheld since your birth, and have carried since you were born. NRSA 4 even to your old age I am he, even when you turn gray I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save. NIV 4 Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. NRSA 5 To whom will you liken me and make me equal, and compare me, as though we were alike? NIV 5 “With whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared? NRSA 6 Those who lavish gold from the purse, and weigh out silver in the scales— they hire a goldsmith, who makes it into a god; then they fall down and worship! NIV 6 Some pour out gold from their bags and weigh out silver on the scales; they hire a goldsmith to make it into a god, and they bow down and worship it. NRSA 7 They lift it to their shoulders, they carry it, they set it in its place, and it stands there; it cannot move from its place. If one cries out to it, it does not answer or save anyone from trouble. NIV 7 They lift it to their shoulders and carry it; they set it up in its place, and there it stands. From that spot it cannot move. Even though someone cries out to it, it cannot answer; it cannot save them from their troubles. NRSA 8 Remember this and consider, recall it to mind, you transgressors, NIV 8 “Remember this, keep it in mind, take it to heart, you rebels. NRSA 9 remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like me, NIV 9 Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. NRSA 10 declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, "My purpose shall stand, and I will fulfill my intention," NIV 10 I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’ NRSA 11 calling a bird of prey from the east, the man for my purpose from a far country. I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass; I have planned, and I will do it. NIV 11 From the east I summon a bird of prey; from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose. What I have said, that I will bring about; what I have planned, that I will do. NRSA 12 Listen to me, you stubborn of heart, you who are far from deliverance: NIV 12 Listen to me, you stubborn-hearted, you who are now far from my righteousness. NRSA 13 I bring near my deliverance, it is not far off, and my salvation will not tarry; I will put salvation in Zion, for Israel my glory. NIV 13 I am bringing my righteousness near, it is not far away; and my salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation to Zion, my splendor to Israel.
