1 (12-2) Ephraim se apacienta del viento, y sigue al solano: mentira y destrucción aumenta continuamente; porque hicieron alianza con los Asirios, y aceite se lleva á Egipto.

The people of Ephraim try to catch the wind and try to chase the east wind all day. They are very violent and destructive. They make treaties with Assyria and take olive oil to Egypt.
2 (12-3) Pleito tiene Jehová con Judá para visitar á Jacob conforme á sus caminos: pagarále conforme á sus obras.

The LORD brings charges against Judah and punishes Jacob because of the way their people act. He will pay them back for what they have done.
3 (12-4) En el vientre tomó por el calcañar á su hermano, y con su fortaleza venció al ángel.

Their ancestor Jacob held on to his brother's heel while the two of them were in their mother's womb. When Jacob became a man, he struggled with God.
4 (12-5) Venció al ángel, y prevaleció; lloró, y rogóle: en Beth-el le halló, y allí habló con nosotros.

He struggled with the Messenger and won. Jacob cried and pleaded with him. Jacob found him at Bethel, and he talked with him there.
5 (12-6) Mas Jehová es Dios de los ejércitos: Jehová es su memorial.

The LORD is the God of Armies. The LORD is the name by which he is remembered.
6 (12-7) Tú pues, conviértete á tu Dios: guarda misericordia y juicio, y en tu Dios espera siempre.

Return to your God. Be loyal and fair, and always wait with hope for your God.
7 (12-8) Es mercader que tiene en su mano peso falso, amador de opresión.

[The LORD says,] "The merchants use dishonest scales. They love to cheat people.
8 (12-9) Y dijo Ephraim: Ciertamente yo he enriquecido, hallado he riquezas para mí: nadie hallará en mí iniquidad, ni pecado en todos mis trabajos.

The people of Ephraim say, 'We're rich. We've made a fortune. With all this wealth, no one will find us guilty of any sin.'
9 (12-10) Empero yo soy Jehová tu Dios desde la tierra de Egipto: aun te haré morar en tiendas, como en los días de la fiesta.

I am the LORD your God. I brought you out of Egypt. I will make you live in tents again as you did during your appointed festivals.
10 (12-11) Y hablado he á los profetas, y yo aumenté la profecía, y por mano de los profetas puse semejanzas.

I spoke to the prophets and gave them many visions. I taught lessons through the prophets."
11 (12-12) ¿Es Galaad iniquidad? Ciertamente vanidad han sido; en Gilgal sacrificaron bueyes: y aún son sus altares como montones en los surcos del campo.

The people of Gilead are evil. They are worthless. They sacrifice bulls in Gilgal. But their altars will become like piles of rubble beside a plowed field.
12 (12-13) Mas Jacob huyó á tierra de Aram, y sirvió Israel por mujer, y por mujer fué pastor.

Jacob fled to the country of Syria. Israel worked to get a wife; he took care of sheep to pay for her.
13 (12-14) Y por profeta hizo subir Jehová á Israel de Egipto, y por profeta fué guardado.

The LORD used a prophet to bring the people of Israel out of Egypt. He used a prophet to take care of them.
14 (12-15) Enojado ha Ephraim á Dios con amarguras; por tanto, sus sangres se derramarán sobre él, y su Señor le pagará su oprobio.

The people of Ephraim made the LORD bitter. He will hold them guilty of murder. The Lord will pay them back for their insults.
