Hebrew Names Version HNV
The Message Bible MSG
1 <<For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David.>> Deliver me, LORD, from the evil man. Preserve me from the violent man;
1
God, get me out of here, away from this evil; protect me from these vicious people.
2 Those who devise mischief in their hearts. They continually gather themselves together for war.
2
All they do is think up new ways to be bad; they spend their days plotting war games.
3 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Viper's poison is under their lips. Selah.
3
They practice the sharp rhetoric of hate and hurt, speak venomous words that maim and kill.
4 LORD, keep me from the hands of the wicked. Preserve me from the violent men: Who have determined to trip my feet.
4
God, keep me out of the clutch of these wicked ones, protect me from these vicious people;
5 The proud have hidden a snare for me, They have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me. Selah.
5
Stuffed with self-importance, they plot ways to trip me up, determined to bring me down. These crooks invent traps to catch me and do their best to incriminate me.
6 I said to the LORD, "You are my God." Listen to the cry of my petitions, LORD.
6
I prayed, "God, you're my God! Listen, God! Mercy!
7 LORD, the Lord, the strength of my yeshu`ah, You have covered my head in the day of battle.
7
God, my Lord, Strong Savior, protect me when the fighting breaks out!
8 LORD, don't grant the desires of the wicked. Don't let their evil plans succeed, or they will become proud. Selah.
8
Don't let the wicked have their way, God, don't give them an inch!"
9 As for the head of those who surround me, Let the mischief of their own lips cover them.
9
These troublemakers all around me - let them drown in their own verbal poison.
10 Let burning coals fall on them. Let them be thrown into the fire, Into miry pits, from where they never rise.
10
Let God pile hellfire on them, let him bury them alive in crevasses!
11 An evil speaker won't be established in the eretz. Evil will hunt the violent man to overthrow him.
11
These loudmouths - don't let them be taken seriously; These savages - let the Devil hunt them down!
12 I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, And justice for the needy.
12
I know that you, God, are on the side of victims, that you care for the rights of the poor.
13 Surely the righteous will give thanks to your name. The upright will dwell in your presence.
13
And I know that the righteous personally thank you, that good people are secure in your presence.
