Psalm 2

HNV

MSG

1 Why do the nations rage, And the peoples plot a vain thing?
1 Why the big noise, nations? Why the mean plots, peoples?
2 The kings of the eretz take a stand, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD, and against his Messiah, saying,
2 Earth-leaders push for position, Demagogues and delegates meet for summit talks, The God-deniers, the Messiah-defiers:
3 "Let us break their bonds apart, And cast away their cords from us."
3 "Let's get free of God! Cast loose from Messiah!"
4 He who sits in the heavens will laugh. The Lord will have them in derision.
4 Heaven-throned God breaks out laughing. At first he's amused at their presumption;
5 Then he will speak to them in his anger, And terrify them in his wrath:
5 Then he gets good and angry. Furiously, he shuts them up:
6 "Yet I have set my king on my holy hill of Tziyon."
6 "Don't you know there's a King in Zion? A coronation banquet Is spread for him on the holy summit."
7 I will tell of the decree. The LORD said to me, "You are my son. Today I have become your father.
7 Let me tell you what God said next. He said, "You're my son, And today is your birthday.
8 Ask of me, and I will give the nations for your inheritance, The uttermost parts of the eretz for your possession.
8 What do you want? Name it: Nations as a present? continents as a prize?
9 You shall break them with a rod of iron. You shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel."
9 You can command them all to dance for you, Or throw them out with tomorrow's trash."
10 Now therefore be wise, you kings. Be instructed, you judges of the eretz.
10 So, rebel-kings, use your heads; Upstart-judges, learn your lesson:
11 Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling.
11 Worship God in adoring embrace,
12 Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, For his wrath will soon be kindled. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.
12 Kiss Messiah! Your very lives are in danger, you know; His anger is about to explode, But if you make a run for God - you won't regret it!
