Psalm 22

NLT

CEB

1 My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away when I groan for help?
1 My God! My God, why have you left me all alone? Why are you so far from saving me— so far from my anguished groans?
2 Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer. Every night I lift my voice, but I find no relief.
2 My God, I cry out during the day, but you don't answer; even at nighttime I don't stop.
3 Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.
3 You are the holy one, enthroned. You are Israel's praise.
4 Our ancestors trusted in you, and you rescued them.
4 Our ancestors trusted you— they trusted you and you rescued them;
5 They cried out to you and were saved. They trusted in you and were never disgraced.
5 they cried out to you and they were saved; they trusted you and they weren't ashamed.
6 But I am a worm and not a man. I am scorned and despised by all!
6 But I'm just a worm, less than human; insulted by one person, despised by another.
7 Everyone who sees me mocks me. They sneer and shake their heads, saying,
7 All who see me make fun of me— they gape, shaking their heads:
8 “Is this the one who relies on the LORD ? Then let the LORD save him! If the LORD loves him so much, let the LORD rescue him!”
8 "He committed himself to the LORD, so let God rescue him; let God deliver him because God likes him so much."
9 Yet you brought me safely from my mother’s womb and led me to trust you at my mother’s breast.
9 But you are the one who pulled me from the womb, placing me safely at my mother's breasts.
10 I was thrust into your arms at my birth. You have been my God from the moment I was born.
10 I was thrown on you from birth; you've been my God since I was in my mother's womb.
11 Do not stay so far from me, for trouble is near, and no one else can help me.
11 Please don't be far from me, because trouble is near and there's no one to help.
12 My enemies surround me like a herd of bulls; fierce bulls of Bashan have hemmed me in!
12 Many bulls surround me; mighty bulls from Bashan encircle me.
13 Like lions they open their jaws against me, roaring and tearing into their prey.
13 They open their mouths at me like a lion ripping and roaring!
14 My life is poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax, melting within me.
14 I'm poured out like water. All my bones have fallen apart. My heart is like wax; it melts inside me.
15 My strength has dried up like sunbaked clay. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You have laid me in the dust and left me for dead.
15 My strength is dried up like a piece of broken pottery. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you've set me down in the dirt of death.
16 My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs; an evil gang closes in on me. They have pierced my hands and feet.
16 Dogs surround me; a pack of evil people circle me like a lion— oh, my poor hands and feet!
17 I can count all my bones. My enemies stare at me and gloat.
17 I can count all my bones! Meanwhile, they just stare at me, watching me.
18 They divide my garments among themselves and throw dice for my clothing.
18 They divvy up my garments among themselves; they cast lots for my clothes.
19 O LORD, do not stay far away! You are my strength; come quickly to my aid!
19 But you, LORD! Don't be far away! You are my strength! Come quick and help me!
20 Save me from the sword; spare my precious life from these dogs.
20 Deliver me from the sword. Deliver my life from the power of the dog.
21 Snatch me from the lion’s jaws and from the horns of these wild oxen.
21 Save me from the mouth of the lion. From the horns of the wild oxen you have answered me!
22 I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters. I will praise you among your assembled people.
22 I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters; I will praise you in the very center of the congregation!
23 Praise the LORD, all you who fear him! Honor him, all you descendants of Jacob! Show him reverence, all you descendants of Israel!
23 All of you who revere the LORD—praise him! All of you who are Jacob's descendants—honor him! All of you who are all Israel's offspring— stand in awe of him!
24 For he has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy. He has not turned his back on them, but has listened to their cries for help.
24 Because he didn't despise or detest the suffering of the one who suffered— he didn't hide his face from me. No, he listened when I cried out to him for help.
25 I will praise you in the great assembly. I will fulfill my vows in the presence of those who worship you.
25 I offer praise in the great congregation because of you; I will fulfill my promises in the presence of those who honor God.
26 The poor will eat and be satisfied. All who seek the LORD will praise him. Their hearts will rejoice with everlasting joy.
26 Let all those who are suffering eat and be full! Let all who seek the LORD praise him! I pray your hearts live forever!
27 The whole earth will acknowledge the LORD and return to him. All the families of the nations will bow down before him.
27 Every part of the earth will remember and come back to the LORD; every family among all the nations will worship you.
28 For royal power belongs to the LORD . He rules all the nations.
28 Because the right to rule belongs to the LORD, he rules all nations.
29 Let the rich of the earth feast and worship. Bow before him, all who are mortal, all whose lives will end as dust.
29 Indeed, all the earth's powerful will worship him; all who are descending to the dust will kneel before him; my being also lives for him.
30 Our children will also serve him. Future generations will hear about the wonders of the Lord.
30 Future descendants will serve him; generations to come will be told about my Lord.
31 His righteous acts will be told to those not yet born. They will hear about everything he has done.
31 They will proclaim God's righteousness to those not yet born, telling them what God has done.
