Romans 12

CEB

GW

1 So, brothers and sisters, because of God's mercies, I encourage you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice that is holy and pleasing to God. This is your appropriate priestly service.
1 Brothers and sisters, in view of all we have just shared about God's compassion, I encourage you to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, dedicated to God and pleasing to him. This kind of worship is appropriate for you.
2 Don't be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you can figure out what God's will is—what is good and pleasing and mature.
2 Don't become like the people of this world. Instead, change the way you think. Then you will always be able to determine what God really wants--what is good, pleasing, and perfect.
3 Because of the grace that God gave me, I can say to each one of you: don't think of yourself more highly than you ought to think. Instead, be reasonable since God has measured out a portion of faith to each one of you.
3 Because of the kindness that God has shown me, I ask you not to think of yourselves more highly than you should. Instead, your thoughts should lead you to use good judgment based on what God has given each of you as believers.
4 We have many parts in one body, but the parts don't all have the same function.
4 Our bodies have many parts, but these parts don't all do the same thing.
5 In the same way, though there are many of us, we are one body in Christ, and individually we belong to each other.
5 In the same way, even though we are many individuals, Christ makes us one body and individuals who are connected to each other.
6 We have different gifts that are consistent with God's grace that has been given to us. If your gift is prophecy, you should prophesy in proportion to your faith.
6 God in his kindness gave each of us different gifts. If your gift is speaking God's word, make sure what you say agrees with the Christian faith.
7 If your gift is service, devote yourself to serving. If your gift is teaching, devote yourself to teaching.
7 If your gift is serving, then devote yourself to serving. If it is teaching, devote yourself to teaching.
8 If your gift is encouragement, devote yourself to encouraging. The one giving should do it with no strings attached. The leader should lead with passion. The one showing mercy should be cheerful.
8 If it is encouraging others, devote yourself to giving encouragement. If it is sharing, be generous. If it is leadership, lead enthusiastically. If it is helping people in need, help them cheerfully.
9 Love should be shown without pretending. Hate evil, and hold on to what is good.
9 Love sincerely. Hate evil. Hold on to what is good.
10 Love each other like the members of your family. Be the best at showing honor to each other.
10 Be devoted to each other like a loving family. Excel in showing respect for each other.
11 Don't hesitate to be enthusiastic—be on fire in the Spirit as you serve the Lord!
11 Don't be lazy in showing your devotion. Use your energy to serve the Lord.
12 Be happy in your hope, stand your ground when you're in trouble, and devote yourselves to prayer.
12 Be happy in your confidence, be patient in trouble, and pray continually.
13 Contribute to the needs of God's people, and welcome strangers into your home.
13 Share what you have with God's people who are in need. Be hospitable.
14 Bless people who harass you—bless and don't curse them.
14 Bless those who persecute you. Bless them, and don't curse them.
15 Be happy with those who are happy, and cry with those who are crying.
15 Be happy with those who are happy. Be sad with those who are sad.
16 Consider everyone as equal, and don't think that you're better than anyone else. Instead, associate with people who have no status. Don't think that you're so smart.
16 Live in harmony with each other. Don't be arrogant, but be friendly to humble people. Don't think that you are smarter than you really are.
17 Don't pay back anyone for their evil actions with evil actions, but show respect for what everyone else believes is good.
17 Don't pay people back with evil for the evil they do to you. Focus your thoughts on those things that are considered noble.
18 If possible, to the best of your ability, live at peace with all people.
18 As much as it is possible, live in peace with everyone.
19 Don't try to get revenge for yourselves, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath. It is written, Revenge belongs to me; I will pay it back, says the Lord.
19 Don't take revenge, dear friends. Instead, let God's anger take care of it. After all, Scripture says, "I alone have the right to take revenge. I will pay back, says the Lord."
20 Instead, If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. By doing this, you will pile burning coals of fire upon his head.
20 But, "If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink. If you do this, you will make him feel guilty and ashamed."
21 Don't be defeated by evil, but defeat evil with good.
21 Don't let evil conquer you, but conquer evil with good.
