Isaías 31:1-7

1 Es inútil confiar en Egipto
¡Qué aflicción les espera a los que buscan ayuda en Egipto!
Al confiar en sus caballos, en sus carros de guerra y en sus conductores;
y al depender de la fuerza de ejércitos humanos
en lugar de buscar ayuda en el Señor
,
el Santo de Israel.

2 En su sabiduría, el Señor
enviará una gran calamidad;
no cambiará de parecer.
Se levantará contra los malvados
y contra quienes los ayudan.

3 ¡Pues estos egipcios son simples seres humanos, no son Dios!
Sus caballos son solo carne, no espíritus poderosos.
Cuando el Señor
levante el puño contra ellos,
quienes los ayudan tropezarán,
y aquellos que reciben ayuda caerán;
todos caerán y morirán juntos.

4 Pero el Señor
me ha dicho:
«Cuando un león joven y fuerte
ruge sobre la oveja que ha matado,
no lo asustan los gritos ni los ruidos
de toda una multitud de pastores.
De la misma manera, el Señor
de los Ejércitos Celestiales
descenderá para pelear en el monte Sión.

5 El Señor
de los Ejércitos Celestiales se moverá en el aire sobre Jerusalén
y la protegerá como un ave protege su nido.
Defenderá y salvará la ciudad;
pasará sobre ella y la rescatará».

6 Pueblo mío, aunque eres rebelde y perverso, ven y regresa al Señor
.

7 Yo sé que llegará el día glorioso cuando cada uno de ustedes desechará los ídolos de oro y las imágenes de plata que han hecho sus manos pecadoras.

INTRODUCTION TO ISAIAH 31

This chapter denounces woe to those that trusted in the Egyptians; assures the Jews of God's care and protection of them; calls them to repentance, and foretells the destruction of the Assyrian army. The sin of those that trusted in Egypt, with the reasons of their trust, and not looking to the Lord, and seeking him, is declared in Isa 31:1 and their folly exposed in so doing; since the Lord is wise, powerful, and unchangeable, and the Egyptians frail and weak; so that the helper and the helped must fall before him, Isa 31:2,3 whereas protection might be expected from the Lord, as is promised, whose power is like that of the lion, and whose tender care is like that of birds to defend their young, Isa 31:4,5 wherefore the Jews are called upon to return to the Lord by repentance, from whom they had revolted; which would be shown by their detestation of idolatry, the sin they had been guilty of, Isa 31:6,7 and the chapter is closed with a prophecy of the ruin of the Assyrian army, and the flight of their king, Isa 31:8,9.
