Giosué 10:34-43

34 Poi Giosuè con tutto Israele passò da Lakis ad Eglon; s’accamparono dirimpetto a questa, e l’attaccarono.

35 La presero quel medesimo giorno e la misero a fil di spada. In quel giorno Giosuè votò allo sterminio tutte le persone che vi si trovavano, esattamente come avea fatto a Lakis.

36 Poi Giosuè con tutto Israele salì da Eglon ad Hebron, e l’attaccarono.

37 La presero, la misero a fil di spada insieme col suo re, con tutte le sue città e con tutte le persone che vi si trovavano; non ne lasciò sfuggire una, esattamente come avea fatto ad Eglon; la votò allo sterminio con tutte le persone che vi si trovavano.

38 Poi Giosuè con tutto Israele tornò verso Debir, e l’attaccò.

39 La prese col suo re e con tutte le sue città; la misero a fil di spada e votarono allo sterminio tutte le persone che vi si trovavano, senza che ne scampasse una. Egli trattò Debir e il suo re come avea trattato Hebron, come avea trattato Libna e il suo re.

40 Giosuè dunque batté tutto il paese, la contrada montuosa, il mezzogiorno, la regione bassa, le pendici, e tutti i loro re; non lasciò scampare alcuno, ma votò allo sterminio tutto ciò che avea vita, come l’Eterno, l’Iddio d’Israele, avea comandato.

41 Così Giosuè li batté da Kades-Barnea fino a Gaza, e batté tutto il paese di Goscen fino a Gabaon.

42 E Giosuè prese ad una volta tutti quei re e i loro paesi, perché l’Eterno, l’Iddio d’Israele, combatteva per Israele.

43 Poi Giosuè, con tutto Israele, fece ritorno al campo di Ghilgal.

INTRODUCTION TO JOSHUA 10

This chapter treats of the combination of five kings against the Gibeonites, Jos 10:1-5; and of the application of the Gibeonites to Joshua, for assistance, in virtue of the league between them, which was granted, Jos 10:6-9; of the slaughter of the army by the kings of Israel, and chiefly by hailstones from heaven, Jos 10:10,11; and of the standing still of the sun, and of the moon, while vengeance was taken on them, Jos 10:12-14; and of the five kings being hid in a cave, and of the usage of them when taken, Jos 10:15-27; and of the taking of Makkedah, Libnah, Lachish, Eglon, Hebron, and Debir, Jos 10:28-39; which finished the conquest of the southern part of the land, Jos 10:40-43.
