Jeremías 40:1-6

1 Palabra que vino a Jeremías del SEÑOR, después que Nabuzaradán capitán de la guardia le envió desde Ramá, cuando le tomó estando atado con esposas entre toda la transmigración de Jerusalén y de Judá que iban cautivos a Babilonia.

2 Tomó, pues, el capitán de la guardia a Jeremías, y le dijo: El SEÑOR tu Dios habló este mal contra este lugar;

3 y lo trajo e hizo el SEÑOR según que había dicho: porque pecasteis contra el SEÑOR, y no oísteis su voz, por tanto os ha venido esto.

4 Y ahora yo te he soltado hoy de las esposas que tenías en tus manos. Si te está bien venir conmigo a Babilonia, ven, y yo miraré por ti; mas si no te está bien venir conmigo a Babilonia, déjalo. Mira, toda la tierra está delante de ti; ve a donde mejor y más cómodo te pareciere ir.

5 Y aun el no había respondido que se volvería, cuando el capitán le dijo: Vuélvete a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, al cual el rey de Babilonia ha puesto sobre todas las ciudades de Judá, y vive con él en medio del pueblo; o ve a donde te pareciere más cómodo ir. Y le dio el capitán de la guardia presentes y dones, y le envió.

6 Y vino entonces Jeremías a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam, a Mizpa, y moró con él en medio del pueblo que había quedado en la tierra.

INTRODUCTION TO JEREMIAH 40

This chapter treats of the release of Jeremiah, and the care taken of him; of the gathering of the princes and people of the Jews to Gedaliah, appointed their governor, dispersed about Judea, and other countries; and of a conspiracy against him, of which information was given him. The release of Jeremiah, where, and by whom, Jer 40:1-4; the liberty granted him to go to Babylon, or stay in Judea, as he thought fit; and, if he chose the latter, is advised to go to Gedaliah, appointed governor, or where he would; and is dismissed with food, and a reward, Jer 40:4-6; upon which he went and dwelt with Gedaliah, Jer 40:7; to whom also the captains of the dispersed forces joined themselves, to whom he swore, and bid them be of good cheer; and exhorted them to serve the Chaldeans, which he urged from the profit of it to them, and by his own example, Jer 40:8-10; and to whom also gathered the Jews in other countries, Jer 40:11,12; by the captains he is informed of a conspiracy against his life, and one of them offers to destroy the conspirator, which Gedaliah would not agree to, disbelieving the information, Jer 40:13-16.
