10 Uplifting Promises of Peace for You This Christmas
Share

If you are alive, there is a desire in your soul for peace. It is something we all want. Sometimes we feel it deeply. Other times the desire runs so deep is consumes everything we do.
The holidays seem to make that desire for peace even more pronounced, especially if there are family problems, a recent loss, or big changes in life that make the heart hurt. As we approach Christmas and try to really celebrate the reason for the season, let’s take just a few minutes to unpack a few different ways we can experience peace through God’s Word this Christmas.

The Promise of the Prince of Peace
“For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”(Isaiah 9:6).
The expectant excitement of a coming King was a prophecy waiting to be fulfilled. For you and me, we now wait for a second coming. But the prophet Isaiah told of the first time, with the beautiful words of hope foretelling some of the amazing names He would be called.
One of my favorites is Prince of Peace. It gives us the royal expectation that this King would rule with peace. In a world where fighting and conflict reigns, the hope of a peaceful ruler gives us great comfort to know our King is a person of peace.
The Promise of the Birth of Peace
“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: ‘Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!’” (Luke 2:13-14).
At Jesus’ birth, angels proclaimed He was offering peace to the world. A prophecy fulfilled and a gift to this earth. But what I love most about this promise of peace is that the peace isn’t offered to one or to a specific group of people. Jesus came and peace was offered to all people. That includes you and me! What a wonderful promise to cling to.

The Promise of Peace in Trouble
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).
Before Jesus left the earth, He told His disciples He would have to go to heaven, but He would leave the peace of His presence with them. This gift of peace would comfort them in trouble and help them when they felt afraid. This same promise is for you and me also. No matter what you face in this season, the gift of peace is available to you today. Receive it.
The Promise of Perfect Peace
“You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You”(Isaiah 26:3).
This might be my favorite verse about peace in the entire Bible. The idea of perfect peace sounds pretty good, right? And it is. When we see the words “perfect peace” here, it comes from the Hebrew word shalom. But it is not just peace. When we see perfect peace, it is a repetition that indicates emphasis. In the original language it would have said, “shalom, shalom.” This is to imply a strong declaration of perfect peace so great, it’s worth giving it some attention.
Not only that, this peace has to do with the mind. It is not just a state of peace, it is peace that sets the anxious mind at ease. That is the kind of peace I want during the hustle and bustle of the season.

The Promise of Peace with Us
“Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all” (2 Thessalonians 3:16).
“God with us” is the true meaning of Christmas. It is Jesus coming to be with us in human form, but then leaving the promise that God would indwell believers with His Spirit. This “God with us” promise gives us the comfort that we are never alone. Whether your Christmas is filled with family and friends or is a quiet day, we have the hope that we are never alone because God is with us.
The Promise of the Peace of God
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).
The heart and mind of every believer is a sure target for the enemy, especially in the holiday season. It is a time we can share with family and friends, but it is also a time that can offer challenges when there is disfunction or disunity. No matter what situation you find yourself in, God offers to give peace when we ask for it. So go ahead and ask God for it when you need it.

The Promise of Ruling Peace
“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful” (Colossians 3:15).
Every single person has something ruling their life. Time could be your leader, or maybe the goal of success. Perhaps it is money that guides decision making, or a desire planted deep in your heart long ago. Everyone has a ruler that reigns over each day.
This verse challenges us to let peace reign. The only way we can do that is by doing just what this verse tells us to do, and that is to live in unity with other believers and to be thankful. Think about how you can cultivate unity and thankfulness in your life today. This might be the doorway to more peace for you this season.
The Promise of Justified Peace
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1).
Sometimes we look at peace as something we might achieve one day or might get as a passing feeling or thought if we try hard enough to disengage or disconnect with reality. But the older I get, the more I am learning that peace is a byproduct of my relationship with Jesus. If I am strengthening my faith, I can also be strengthening my peace. It is realizing peace is not something I can attain or muster up. It is something God gives me when I trust Him more.

The Promise of Strong Peace
“The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace” (Psalm 29:11).
When we realize one of the strongest things we can do is acknowledge our weakness, we are on the right track to peace. Peace is a blessing we can receive from God. Simply by knowing God and walking with Him, we can both behold and experience the peace God offers.
The Promise of Peace through God’s Word
“I will hear what God the Lord will speak,
For He will speak peace
To His people and to His saints;
But let them not turn back to folly”(Psalm 85:8).
We can attempt to get peace in many different forms. We can take deep breaths. Focus our thoughts. Think happy thoughts. Even surround ourselves with positive experiences and people. But nothing will satisfy the soul with peace more than hearing God’s Word.
Whether it is the still small voice of the Holy Spirit, or the comforting words of Scripture, God’s Word promises to give us exactly what we need exactly when we need it. So open the Word today and every day. Let peace fill you and be an everyday part of who you are. Peace is available to you today. Peace is possible for you today.
