Bible Verses about Bats - Should Humans Eat Them?

In the Books of Leviticus and Deuteronomy, the Bible tells us not to eat a collection of animals that are unclean for humans to consume. Bats are included in this list of creatures that humans should not be eating, accompanying a variety of birds.

Levitcus 11:13-19 says, “These are the birds you are to regard as unclean and not eat because they are unclean: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture, the red kite, any kind of black kite, any kind of raven, the horned owl, the screech owl, the gull, any kind of hawk, the little owl, the cormorant, the great owl, the white owl, the desert owl, the osprey, the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe and the bat."

Deuteronomy 14:11-18 echoes this list of flying creatures not to eat, "You may eat all clean birds. But these are the ones that you shall not eat: the eagle, the bearded vulture, the black vulture, the kite, the falcon of any kind; every raven of any kind; the ostrich, the nighthawk, the sea gull, the hawk of any kind; the little owl and the short-eared owl, the barn owl and the tawny owl, the carrion vulture and the cormorant, the stork, the heron of any kind; the hoopoe and the bat."
