Job 34:10-30 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
10 "So listen to me,1 you men of understanding.2 Far be it from God to do evil,3 from the Almighty to do wrong.4 11 He repays a man for what he has done;5 he brings upon him what his conduct deserves.6 12 It is unthinkable that God would do wrong,7 that the Almighty would pervert justice.8 13 Who appointed9 him over the earth? Who put him in charge of the whole world?10 14 If it were his intention and he withdrew his spirita11 and breath,12 15 all mankind would perish13 together and man would return to the dust.14 16 "If you have understanding,15 hear this; listen to what I say.16 17 Can he who hates justice govern?17 Will you condemn the just and mighty One?18 18 Is he not the One who says to kings, 'You are worthless,' and to nobles,19 'You are wicked,'20 19 who shows no partiality21 to princes and does not favor the rich over the poor,22 for they are all the work of his hands?23 20 They die in an instant, in the middle of the night;24 the people are shaken and they pass away; the mighty are removed without human hand.25 21 "His eyes are on the ways of men;26 he sees their every step.27 22 There is no dark place,28 no deep shadow,29 where evildoers can hide.30 23 God has no need to examine men further,31 that they should come before him for judgment.32 24 Without inquiry he shatters33 the mighty34 and sets up others in their place.35 25 Because he takes note of their deeds,36 he overthrows them in the night37 and they are crushed.38 26 He punishes them for their wickedness39 where everyone can see them, 27 because they turned from following him40 and had no regard for any of his ways.41 28 They caused the cry of the poor to come before him, so that he heard the cry of the needy.42 29 But if he remains silent,43 who can condemn him?44 If he hides his face,45 who can see him? Yet he is over man and nation alike,46 30 to keep a godless47 man from ruling,48 from laying snares for the people.49
