Matthew 5:13-16

The truest thing about us is what God says is true. 2000 years ago, Jesus invested his entire kingdom mission in the lives of his disciples. He said, "you are the salt of the earth, you are the light of the world." Today, Jesus invests his kingdom mission in us.

Salt preserves, enhances flavor, and makes people thirsty. Jesus used that metaphor to describe our influence as His followers. In this message, Jonathan Evans challenges us to consider whether we’re truly making a difference in the world or just blending into it.

Today pastor Jeff resumes our study of the Sermon on the Mount.  Today we’re learning what we’re to be like in these last days.  Jesus summed it up perfectly… we’re to be both salt and light.  Salt is what we are… we cause a thirst.  Light is what we do… we shine!  

As the world goes from bad to worse, the Christian is to be a preserving influence.  A light in a dark world.  Question is are you just going with the flow of this world, or are you truly salt and light as you should be?  Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll learn a thing or two about what we’re to be like in these difficult days.  

It’s one of the most frequently asked questions, “What is God’s will for my life?”  We see Jesus answer that question in His Sermon on the Mount by telling us to be Salt and Light in the world.  Today we’ll be discussing God’s call for each of us and part of that involves turning the light on wherever we may be.  

We’ve all experienced it… you dig into a meal and discover it doesn’t have enough salt.  It’s bland!  It’s about that time you reach for the salt-shaker right?  While delivering His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus likened the Christian to salt and light. We’ll see how we can be salt to a world desperate for some good seasoning!
