The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and
1offering him sour wine

and saying,
2“If you are
3the King of the Jews, save yourself! ”

4There was also an inscription over him, “This is
5the King of the Jews. ”

6One of the criminals who were hanged
7railed at him, saying, “Are you not
8the Christ? Save yourself and us! ”
40
But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?
41
And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong. ”
42
And he said, “Jesus, remember me
9when you come into your kingdom. ”
43
And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in
10Paradise. ”
The Death of Jesus
44 11It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour,
45
while the sun’s light failed. And
12the curtain of the temple was torn in two.
46
Then Jesus,
13calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father,
14into your hands I
15commit my spirit! ”And having said this
16he breathed his last.
