5 He provides food for those who fear him; he 1remembers his covenant forever.
6 He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the inheritance of the nations.
7 The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are 2trustworthy;
8 they are 3established forever and ever, to be performed with 4faithfulness and uprightness.
9 He sent 5redemption to his people; he has 6commanded his covenant forever. 7Holy and awesome is his name!
10 8The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have 9a good understanding. His 10praise endures forever!

Psalm 111:5-10 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO PSALM 111

This psalm, though without a name, is thought to be penned by David; it is composed in an artificial manner, in an alphabetical order, each clause or sentence beginning with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet in course, till the whole is finished; this perhaps was done to recommend the psalm, to make it more observed, and to help the memory; the general design of it is to excite to praise the Lord, from the consideration of his great and wonderful works.
