Would it turn out well if he examined you?1 Could you deceive him as you might deceive men?2

He would surely rebuke you if you secretly showed partiality.3

Would not his splendor4 terrify you? Would not the dread of him fall on you?5

Your maxims are proverbs of ashes; your defenses are defenses of clay.6

"Keep silent7 and let me speak;8 then let come to me what may.9

Why do I put myself in jeopardy and take my life in my hands?10

Though he slay me, yet will I hope11 in him;12 I will surelya defend my ways to his face.13

Indeed, this will turn out for my deliverance,14 for no godless15 man would dare come before him!16

Listen carefully to my words;17 let your ears take in what I say.

Now that I have prepared my case,18 I know I will be vindicated.19
