Deuteronomy 23

HNV

NIV

1 He who is wounded in the stones, or has his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD.
1 No one who has been emasculated by crushing or cutting may enter the assembly of the LORD.
2 A bastard shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation shall none of his enter into the assembly of the LORD.
2 No one born of a forbidden marriage nor any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD, not even in the tenth generation.
3 An `Ammonite or a Mo'avite shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation shall none belonging to them enter into the assembly of the LORD forever:
3 No Ammonite or Moabite or any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD, not even in the tenth generation.
4 because they didn't meet you with bread and with water in the way, when you came forth out of Mitzrayim, and because they hired against you Bil`am the son of Be'or from Petor of Aram-Naharayim, to curse you
4 For they did not come to meet you with bread and water on your way when you came out of Egypt, and they hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim to pronounce a curse on you.
5 Nevertheless the LORD your God wouldn't listen to Bil`am; but the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing to you, because the LORD your God loved you.
5 However, the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loves you.
6 You shall not seek their shalom nor their prosperity all your days forever.
6 Do not seek a treaty of friendship with them as long as you live.
7 You shall not abhor an Edomite; for he is your brother: you shall not abhor a Mitzrian, because you were a sojourner in his land.
7 Do not despise an Edomite, for the Edomites are related to you. Do not despise an Egyptian, because you resided as foreigners in their country.
8 The children of the third generation who are born to them shall enter into the assembly of the LORD.
8 The third generation of children born to them may enter the assembly of the LORD.
9 When you go forth in camp against your enemies, then you shall keep you from every evil thing.
9 When you are encamped against your enemies, keep away from everything impure.
10 If there be among you any man, who is not clean by reason of that which happens him by night, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp:
10 If one of your men is unclean because of a nocturnal emission, he is to go outside the camp and stay there.
11 but it shall be, when evening comes on, he shall bathe himself in water; and when the sun is down, he shall come within the camp.
11 But as evening approaches he is to wash himself, and at sunset he may return to the camp.
12 You shall have a place also outside of the camp, where you shall go forth abroad:
12 Designate a place outside the camp where you can go to relieve yourself.
13 and you shall have a paddle among your weapons; and it shall be, when you sit down abroad, you shall dig therewith, and shall turn back and cover that which comes from you:
13 As part of your equipment have something to dig with, and when you relieve yourself, dig a hole and cover up your excrement.
14 for the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you, and to give up your enemies before you; therefore shall your camp be holy, that he may not see an unclean thing in you, and turn away from you
14 For the LORD your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you. Your camp must be holy, so that he will not see among you anything indecent and turn away from you.
15 You shall not deliver to his master a servant who is escaped from his master to you:
15 If a slave has taken refuge with you, do not hand them over to their master.
16 he shall dwell with you, in the midst of you, in the place which he shall choose within one of your gates, where it pleases him best: you shall not oppress him.
16 Let them live among you wherever they like and in whatever town they choose. Do not oppress them.
17 There shall be no prostitute of the daughters of Yisra'el, neither shall there be a sodomite of the sons of Yisra'el.
17 No Israelite man or woman is to become a shrine prostitute.
18 You shall not bring the hire of a prostitute, or the wages of a dog, into the house of the LORD your God for any vow: for even both these are an abomination to the LORD your God.
18 You must not bring the earnings of a female prostitute or of a male prostitute into the house of the LORD your God to pay any vow, because the LORD your God detests them both.
19 You shall not lend on interest to your brother; interest of money, interest of victuals, interest of anything that is lent on interest
19 Do not charge a fellow Israelite interest, whether on money or food or anything else that may earn interest.
20 to a foreigner you may lend on interest; but to your brother you shall not lend on interest, that the LORD your God may bless you in all that you put your hand to, in the land where you go in to possess it.
20 You may charge a foreigner interest, but not a fellow Israelite, so that the LORD your God may bless you in everything you put your hand to in the land you are entering to possess.
21 When you shall vow a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not be slack to pay it: for the LORD your God will surely require it of you; and it would be sin in you
21 If you make a vow to the LORD your God, do not be slow to pay it, for the LORD your God will certainly demand it of you and you will be guilty of sin.
22 But if you shall forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in you.
22 But if you refrain from making a vow, you will not be guilty.
23 That which is gone out of your lips you shall observe and do; according as you have vowed to the LORD your God, a freewill-offering, which you have promised with your mouth.
23 Whatever your lips utter you must be sure to do, because you made your vow freely to the LORD your God with your own mouth.
24 When you come into your neighbor's vineyard, then you may eat of grapes your fill at your own pleasure; but you shall not put any in your vessel.
24 If you enter your neighbor’s vineyard, you may eat all the grapes you want, but do not put any in your basket.
25 When you come into your neighbor's standing grain, then you may pluck the ears with your hand; but you shall not move a sickle to your neighbor's standing grain.
25 If you enter your neighbor’s grainfield, you may pick kernels with your hands, but you must not put a sickle to their standing grain.
