Hebrew Names Version (HNV) New International Version (NIV)
When the LORD your God shall bring you into the land where you go to possess it, and shall cast out many nations before you, the Hittite, and the Girgashi, and the Amori, and the Kana`ani, and the Perizzi, and the Hivvi, and the Yevusi, seven nations greater and mightier than you; 1 When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you many nations--the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you--
and when the LORD your God shall deliver them up before you, and you shall strike them; then you shall utterly destroy them: you shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them; 2 and when the LORD your God has delivered them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must destroy them totally. Make no treaty with them, and show them no mercy.
neither shall you make marriages with them; your daughter you shall not give to his son, nor his daughter shall you take to your son. 3 Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,
For he will turn away your son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and he will destroy you quickly. 4 for they will turn your sons away from following me to serve other gods, and the LORD's anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you.
But thus shall you deal with them: you shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and hew down their Asherim, and burn their engraved images with fire. 5 This is what you are to do to them: Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones, cut down their Asherah poles and burn their idols in the fire.
For you are a holy people to the LORD your God: the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the eretz. 6 For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.
The LORD didn't set his love on you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all peoples: 7 The LORD did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.
but because the LORD loves you, and because he would keep the oath which he swore to your fathers, has the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Par`oh king of Mitzrayim. 8 But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your forefathers that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
Know therefore that the LORD your God, he is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and lovingkindness with them who love him and keep his mitzvot to a thousand generations, 9 Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.
and repays those who hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him who hates him, he will repay him to his face. 10 But those who hate him he will repay to their face by destruction; he will not be slow to repay to their face those who hate him.
You shall therefore keep the mitzvah, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which I command you this day, to do them. 11 Therefore, take care to follow the commands, decrees and laws I give you today.
It shall happen, because you listen to these ordinances, and keep and do them, that the LORD your God will keep with you the covenant and the lovingkindness which he swore to your fathers: 12 If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then the LORD your God will keep his covenant of love with you, as he swore to your forefathers.
and he will love you, and bless you, and multiply you; he will also bless the fruit of your body and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the young of your flock, in the land which he swore to your fathers to give you. 13 He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers. He will bless the fruit of your womb, the crops of your land--your grain, new wine and oil--the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks in the land that he swore to your forefathers to give you.
You shall be blessed above all peoples: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle. 14 You will be blessed more than any other people; none of your men or women will be childless, nor any of your livestock without young.
The LORD will take away from you all sickness; and none of the evil diseases of Mitzrayim, which you know, will he put on you, but will lay them on all those who hate you. 15 The LORD will keep you free from every disease. He will not inflict on you the horrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but he will inflict them on all who hate you.
You shall consume all the peoples who the LORD your God shall deliver to you; your eye shall not pity them: neither shall you serve their gods; for that will be a snare to you. 16 You must destroy all the peoples the LORD your God gives over to you. Do not look on them with pity and do not serve their gods, for that will be a snare to you.
If you shall say in your heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them? 17 You may say to yourselves, "These nations are stronger than we are. How can we drive them out?"
you shall not be afraid of them: you shall well remember what the LORD your God did to Par`oh, and to all Mitzrayim; 18 But do not be afraid of them; remember well what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt.
the great trials which your eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, whereby the LORD your God brought you out: so shall the LORD your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid. 19 You saw with your own eyes the great trials, the miraculous signs and wonders, the mighty hand and outstretched arm, with which the LORD your God brought you out. The LORD your God will do the same to all the peoples you now fear.
Moreover the LORD your God will send the hornet among them, until those who are left, and hide themselves, perish from before you. 20 Moreover, the LORD your God will send the hornet among them until even the survivors who hide from you have perished.
You shall not be scared of them; for the LORD your God is in the midst of you, a great and awesome God. 21 Do not be terrified by them, for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome God.
The LORD your God will cast out those nations before you by little and little: you may not consume them at once, lest the animals of the field increase on you. 22 The LORD your God will drive out those nations before you, little by little. You will not be allowed to eliminate them all at once, or the wild animals will multiply around you.
But the LORD your God will deliver them up before you, and will confuse them with a great confusion, until they be destroyed. 23 But the LORD your God will deliver them over to you, throwing them into great confusion until they are destroyed.
He will deliver their kings into your hand, and you shall make their name to perish from under the sky: there shall no man be able to stand before you, until you have destroyed them. 24 He will give their kings into your hand, and you will wipe out their names from under heaven. No one will be able to stand up against you; you will destroy them.
The engraved images of their gods shall you burn with fire: you shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it to you, lest you be snared therein; for it is an abomination to the LORD your God. 25 The images of their gods you are to burn in the fire. Do not covet the silver and gold on them, and do not take it for yourselves, or you will be ensnared by it, for it is detestable to the LORD your God.
You shall not bring an abomination into your house, and become a devoted thing like it: you shall utterly detest it, and you shall utterly abhor it; for it is a devoted thing. 26 Do not bring a detestable thing into your house or you, like it, will be set apart for destruction. Utterly abhor and detest it, for it is set apart for destruction.
