GOD'S WORD Translation (GW) New International Version (NIV)
From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by God's will. To God's holy and faithful people who are united with Christ in the city of Ephesus. 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus:
Good will and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ are yours! 2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! Through Christ, God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing that heaven has to offer. 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
Before the creation of the world, he chose us through Christ to be holy and perfect in his presence. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love
Because of his love he had already decided to adopt us through Jesus Christ. He freely chose to do this 5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will--
so that the kindness he had given us in his dear Son would be praised and given glory. 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
Through the blood of his Son, we are set free from our sins. God forgives our failures because of his overflowing kindness. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace
He poured out his kindness by giving us every kind of wisdom and insight 8 that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.
when he revealed the mystery of his plan to us. He had decided to do this through Christ. 9 And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ,
He planned to bring all of history to its goal in Christ. Then Christ would be the head of everything in heaven and on earth. 10 to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment--to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.
God also decided ahead of time to choose us through Christ according to his plan, which makes everything work the way he intends. 11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,
He planned all of this so that we who had already focused our hope on Christ would praise him and give him glory. 12 in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.
You heard and believed the message of truth, the Good News that he has saved you. In him you were sealed with the Holy Spirit whom he promised. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,
This Holy Spirit is the guarantee that we will receive our inheritance. We have this guarantee until we are set free to belong to him. God receives praise and glory for this. 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory.
I, too, have heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God's people. For this reason 15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints,
I never stop thanking God for you. I always remember you in my prayers. 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.
I pray that the glorious Father, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, would give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know Christ better. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.
Then you will have deeper insight. You will know the confidence that he calls you to have and the glorious wealth that God's people will inherit. 18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
You will also know the unlimited greatness of his power as it works with might and strength for us, the believers. 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength,
He worked with that same power in Christ when he brought him back to life and gave him the highest position in heaven. 20 which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,
He is far above all rulers, authorities, powers, lords, and all other names that can be named, not only in this present world but also in the world to come. 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.
God has put everything under the control of Christ. He has made Christ the head of everything for the good of the church. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church,
The church is Christ's body and completes him as he fills everything in every way. 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
