| 4 whereby, when ye read, ye can perceive my understanding in the mystery of Christ; | 4 In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, |
| 5 which in other generation was not made known unto the sons of men, as it hath now been revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit; | 5 which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets. |
| 6 [to wit], that the Gentiles are fellow-heirs, and fellow-members of the body, and fellow-partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel, | 6 This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus. |
| 7 whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of that grace of God which was given me according to the working of his power. | 7 I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power. |
| 8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, was this grace given, to preach unto the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; | 8 Although I am less than the least of all God's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, |
| 9 and to make all men see what is the dispensation of the mystery which for ages hath been hid in God who created all things; | 9 and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. |
| 10 to the intent that now unto the principalities and the powers in the heavenly [places] might be made known through the church the manifold wisdom of God, | 10 His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, |
| 11 according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: | 11 according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. |
| 12 in whom we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him. | 12 In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. |
| 13 Wherefore I ask that ye may not faint at my tribulations for you, which are your glory. | 13 I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory. |
| 14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father, | 14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, |
| 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, | 15 from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. |
| 16 that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that ye may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inward man; | 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, |
| 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, | 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, |
| 18 may be strong to apprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, | 18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, |
| 19 and to know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge, that ye may be filled unto all the fulness of God. | 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. |
| 20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, | 20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, |
| 21 unto him [be] the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus unto all generations for ever and ever. Amen. | 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. |
