New King James Version (NKJV) New International Version (NIV)
Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children
And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; 3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people.
neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person--such a man is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient.
Therefore do not be partakers with them. 7 Therefore do not be partners with them.
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
(for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 10 and find out what pleases the Lord.
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 12 For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible,
Therefore He says: "Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light." 14 for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."
See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 15 Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise,
redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,
giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
submitting to one another in the fear of God. 21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,
that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. 29 After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church--
For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. 30 for we are members of his body.
"For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." 31 "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."
This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 32 This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church.
Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
