Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
"Honor your father and mother"—this is the first commandment with a promise: 2 "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise--
"so that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth." 3 "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."
And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. 4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, in singleness of heart, as you obey Christ; 5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.
not only while being watched, and in order to please them, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.
Render service with enthusiasm, as to the Lord and not to men and women, 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men,
knowing that whatever good we do, we will receive the same again from the Lord, whether we are slaves or free. 8 because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.
And, masters, do the same to them. Stop threatening them, for you know that both of you have the same Master in heaven, and with him there is no partiality. 9 And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.
For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,
As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
Pray also for me, so that when I speak, a message may be given to me to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,
for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it boldly, as I must speak. 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
So that you also may know how I am and what I am doing, Tychicus will tell you everything. He is a dear brother and a faithful minister in the Lord. 21 Tychicus, the dear brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know how I am and what I am doing.
I am sending him to you for this very purpose, to let you know how we are, and to encourage your hearts. 22 I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may encourage you.
Peace be to the whole community, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 23 Peace to the brothers, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace be with all who have an undying love for our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
