New King James Version (NKJV) New International Version (NIV)
Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 1 Then the LORD said to Moses:
"On the first day of the first month you shall set up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. 2 "Set up the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the first month.
You shall put in it the ark of the Testimony, and partition off the ark with the veil. 3 Place the ark of the Testimony in it and shield the ark with the curtain.
You shall bring in the table and arrange the things that are to be set in order on it; and you shall bring in the lampstand and light its lamps. 4 Bring in the table and set out what belongs on it. Then bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps.
You shall also set the altar of gold for the incense before the ark of the Testimony, and put up the screen for the door of the tabernacle. 5 Place the gold altar of incense in front of the ark of the Testimony and put the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.
Then you shall set the altar of the burnt offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. 6 "Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting;
And you shall set the laver between the tabernacle of meeting and the altar, and put water in it. 7 place the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar and put water in it.
You shall set up the court all around, and hang up the screen at the court gate. 8 Set up the courtyard around it and put the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard.
And you shall take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it; and you shall hallow it and all its utensils, and it shall be holy. 9 "Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it and all its furnishings, and it will be holy.
You shall anoint the altar of the burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the altar. The altar shall be most holy. 10 Then anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate the altar, and it will be most holy.
And you shall anoint the laver and its base, and consecrate it. 11 Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate them.
Then you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the tabernacle of meeting and wash them with water. 12 "Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water.
You shall put the holy garments on Aaron, and anoint him and consecrate him, that he may minister to Me as priest. 13 Then dress Aaron in the sacred garments, anoint him and consecrate him so he may serve me as priest.
And you shall bring his sons and clothe them with tunics. 14 Bring his sons and dress them in tunics.
You shall anoint them, as you anointed their father, that they may minister to Me as priests; for their anointing shall surely be an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations." 15 Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so they may serve me as priests. Their anointing will be to a priesthood that will continue for all generations to come."
Thus Moses did; according to all that the Lord had commanded him, so he did. 16 Moses did everything just as the LORD commanded him.
And it came to pass in the first month of the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was raised up. 17 So the tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month in the second year.
So Moses raised up the tabernacle, fastened its sockets, set up its boards, put in its bars, and raised up its pillars. 18 When Moses set up the tabernacle, he put the bases in place, erected the frames, inserted the crossbars and set up the posts.
And he spread out the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering of the tent on top of it, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 19 Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering over the tent, as the LORD commanded him.
He took the Testimony and put it into the ark, inserted the poles through the rings of the ark, and put the mercy seat on top of the ark. 20 He took the Testimony and placed it in the ark, attached the poles to the ark and put the atonement cover over it.
And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, hung up the veil of the covering, and partitioned off the ark of the Testimony, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 21 Then he brought the ark into the tabernacle and hung the shielding curtain and shielded the ark of the Testimony, as the LORD commanded him.
He put the table in the tabernacle of meeting, on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil; 22 Moses placed the table in the Tent of Meeting on the north side of the tabernacle outside the curtain
and he set the bread in order upon it before the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 23 and set out the bread on it before the LORD, as the LORD commanded him.
He put the lampstand in the tabernacle of meeting, across from the table, on the south side of the tabernacle; 24 He placed the lampstand in the Tent of Meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle
and he lit the lamps before the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 25 and set up the lamps before the LORD, as the LORD commanded him.
He put the gold altar in the tabernacle of meeting in front of the veil; 26 Moses placed the gold altar in the Tent of Meeting in front of the curtain
and he burned sweet incense on it, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 27 and burned fragrant incense on it, as the LORD commanded him.
He hung up the screen at the door of the tabernacle. 28 Then he put up the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.
And he put the altar of burnt offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and offered upon it the burnt offering and the grain offering, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 29 He set the altar of burnt offering near the entrance to the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, and offered on it burnt offerings and grain offerings, as the LORD commanded him.
He set the laver between the tabernacle of meeting and the altar, and put water there for washing; 30 He placed the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing,
and Moses, Aaron, and his sons would wash their hands and their feet with water from it. 31 and Moses and Aaron and his sons used it to wash their hands and feet.
Whenever they went into the tabernacle of meeting, and when they came near the altar, they washed, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 32 They washed whenever they entered the Tent of Meeting or approached the altar, as the LORD commanded Moses.
And he raised up the court all around the tabernacle and the altar, and hung up the screen of the court gate. So Moses finished the work. 33 Then Moses set up the courtyard around the tabernacle and altar and put up the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard. And so Moses finished the work.
Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 34 Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
And Moses was not able to enter the tabernacle of meeting, because the cloud rested above it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 35 Moses could not enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud had settled upon it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle, the children of Israel would go onward in all their journeys. 36 In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out;
But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not journey till the day that it was taken up. 37 but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out--until the day it lifted.
For the cloud of the Lord was above the tabernacle by day, and fire was over it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys. 38 So the cloud of the LORD was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel during all their travels.
