GOD'S WORD Translation (GW) New International Version (NIV)
Brothers and sisters, if a person gets trapped by wrongdoing, those of you who are spiritual should help that person turn away from doing wrong. Do it in a gentle way. At the same time watch yourself so that you also are not tempted. 1 Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.
Help carry each other's burdens. In this way you will follow Christ's teachings. 2 Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
So if any one of you thinks you're important when you're really not, you're only fooling yourself. 3 If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
Each of you must examine your own actions. Then you can be proud of your own accomplishments without comparing yourself to others. 4 Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else,
Assume your own responsibility. 5 for each one should carry his own load.
The person who is taught God's word should share all good things with his teacher. 6 Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor.
Make no mistake about this: You can never make a fool out of God. Whatever you plant is what you'll harvest. 7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
If you plant in [the soil of] your corrupt nature, you will harvest destruction. But if you plant in [the soil of] your spiritual nature, you will harvest everlasting life. 8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
We can't allow ourselves to get tired of living the right way. Certainly, each of us will receive [everlasting life] at the proper time, if we don't give up. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Whenever we have the opportunity, we have to do what is good for everyone, especially for the family of believers. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
Look at how large the letters [in these words] are because I'm writing this myself. 11 See what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand!
These people who want to make a big deal out of a physical thing are trying to force you to be circumcised. Their only aim is to avoid persecution because of the cross of Christ. 12 Those who want to make a good impression outwardly are trying to compel you to be circumcised. The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ.
It's clear that not even those who had themselves circumcised did this to follow Jewish laws. Yet, they want you to be circumcised so that they can brag about what was done to your body. 13 Not even those who are circumcised obey the law, yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your flesh.
But it's unthinkable that I could ever brag about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. By his cross my relationship to the world and its relationship to me have been crucified. 14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
Certainly, it doesn't matter whether a person is circumcised or not. Rather, what matters is being a new creation. 15 Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is a new creation.
Peace and mercy will come to rest on all those who conform to this principle. They are the Israel of God. 16 Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule, even to the Israel of God.
From now on, don't make any trouble for me! After all, I carry the scars of Jesus on my body. 17 Finally, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.
May the good will of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers and sisters! Amen. 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers. Amen.
