New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
Dear brothers and sisters, if another Christian is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. 1 Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.
Share each other's troubles and problems, and in this way obey the law of Christ. 2 Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
If you think you are too important to help someone in need, you are only fooling yourself. You are really a nobody. 3 If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
Be sure to do what you should, for then you will enjoy the personal satisfaction of having done your work well, and you won't need to compare yourself to anyone else. 4 Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else,
For we are each responsible for our own conduct. 5 for each one should carry his own load.
Those who are taught the word of God should help their teachers by paying them. 6 Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor.
Don't be misled. Remember that you can't ignore God and get away with it. You will always reap what you sow! 7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful desires will harvest the consequences of decay and death. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. 8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
So don't get tired of doing what is good. Don't get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone, especially to our Christian brothers and sisters. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
Notice what large letters I use as I write these closing words in my own handwriting. 11 See what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand!
Those who are trying to force you to be circumcised are doing it for just one reason. They don't want to be persecuted for teaching that the cross of Christ alone can save. 12 Those who want to make a good impression outwardly are trying to compel you to be circumcised. The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ.
And even those who advocate circumcision don't really keep the whole law. They only want you to be circumcised so they can brag about it and claim you as their disciples. 13 Not even those who are circumcised obey the law, yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your flesh.
As for me, God forbid that I should boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world died long ago, and the world's interest in me is also long dead. 14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
It doesn't make any difference now whether we have been circumcised or not. What counts is whether we really have been changed into new and different people. 15 Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is a new creation.
May God's mercy and peace be upon all those who live by this principle. They are the new people of God. 16 Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule, even to the Israel of God.
From now on, don't let anyone trouble me with these things. For I bear on my body the scars that show I belong to Jesus. 17 Finally, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.
My dear brothers and sisters, may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers. Amen.
