GOD'S WORD Translation (GW) New International Version (NIV)
"Don't be troubled. Believe in God, and believe in me. 1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.
My Father's house has many rooms. If that were not true, would I have told you that I'm going to prepare a place for you? 2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.
If I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again. Then I will bring you into my presence so that you will be where I am. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
You know the way to the place where I am going." 4 You know the way to the place where I am going."
Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you're going. So how can we know the way?" 5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?"
Jesus answered him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to the Father except through me. 6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
If you have known me, you will also know my Father. From now on you know him [through me] and have seen him [in me]." 7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."
Philip said to Jesus, "Lord, show us the Father, and that will satisfy us." 8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us."
Jesus replied, "I have been with all of you for a long time. Don't you know me yet, Philip? The person who has seen me has seen the Father. So how can you say, 'Show us the Father'? 9 Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? What I'm telling you doesn't come from me. The Father, who lives in me, does what he wants. 10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.
Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me. Otherwise, believe me because of the things I do. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves.
"I can guarantee this truth: Those who believe in me will do the things that I am doing. They will do even greater things because I am going to the Father. 12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
I will do anything you ask [the Father] in my name so that the Father will be given glory because of the Son. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.
If you ask me to do something, I will do it. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
"If you love me, you will obey my commandments. 15 "If you love me, you will obey what I command.
I will ask the Father, and he will give you another helper who will be with you forever. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever--
That helper is the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept him, because it doesn't see or know him. You know him, because he lives with you and will be in you. 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
"I will not leave you all alone. I will come back to you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. You will live because I live. 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
On that day you will know that I am in my Father and that you are in me and that I am in you. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
Whoever knows and obeys my commandments is the person who loves me. Those who love me will have my Father's love, and I, too, will love them and show myself to them." 21 Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him."
Judas (not Iscariot) asked Jesus, "Lord, what has happened that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?" 22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, "But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?"
Jesus answered him, "Those who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will go to them and make our home with them. 23 Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
A person who doesn't love me doesn't do what I say. I don't make up what you hear me say. What I say comes from the Father who sent me. 24 He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
"I have told you this while I'm still with you. 25 "All this I have spoken while still with you.
However, the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything. He will remind you of everything that I have ever told you. 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
"I'm leaving you peace. I'm giving you my peace. I don't give you the kind of peace that the world gives. So don't be troubled or cowardly. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
You heard me tell you, 'I'm going away, but I'm coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would be glad that I'm going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am. 28 "You heard me say, 'I am going away and I am coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
"I'm telling you this now before it happens. When it does happen, you will believe. 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.
The ruler of this world has no power over me. But he's coming, so I won't talk with you much longer. 30 I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me,
However, I want the world to know that I love the Father and that I am doing exactly what the Father has commanded me to do. Get up! We have to leave." 31 but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me. "Come now; let us leave.
