(106-1) Give glory to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. 1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
(106-2) Let them say so that have been redeemed by the Lord, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy: and gathered out of the countries. 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say this-- those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
(106-3) From the rising and from the setting of the sun, from the north and from the sea. 3 those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south.
(106-4) They wandered in a wilderness, in a place without water: they found not the way of a city for their habitation. 4 Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle.
(106-5) They were hungry and thirsty: their soul fainted in them. 5 They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away.
(106-6) And they cried to the Lord in their tribulation: and he delivered them out of their distresses. 6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
(106-7) And he led them into the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. 7 He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle.
(106-8) Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him: and his wonderful works to the children of men. 8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men,
(106-9) For he hath satisfied the empty soul, and hath filled the hungry soul with good things. 9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
(106-10) Such as sat in darkness and in the shadow of death: bound in want and in iron. 10 Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains,
(106-11) Because they had exasperated the words of God: and provoked the counsel of the most High: 11 for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High.
(106-12) And their heart was humbled with labours: they were weakened, and there was none to help them. 12 So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help.
(106-13) Then they cried to the Lord in their affliction: and he delivered them out of their distresses. 13 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.
(106-14) And he brought them out of darkness, and the shadow of death; and broke their bonds in sunder. 14 He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains.
(106-15) Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him, and his wonderful works to the children of men. 15 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men,
(106-16) Because he hath broken gates of brass, and burst iron bars. 16 for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron.
(106-17) He took them out of the way of their iniquity: for they were brought low for their injustices. 17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.
(106-18) Their soul abhorred all manner of meat: and they drew nigh even to the gates of death. 18 They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death.
(106-19) And they cried to the Lord in their affliction: and he delivered them out of their distresses. 19 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.
(106-20) He sent his word, and healed them: and delivered them from their destructions. 20 He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.
(106-21) Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him: and his wonderful works to the children of men. 21 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.
(106-22) And let them sacrifice the sacrifice of praise: and declare his works with joy. 22 Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy.
(106-23) They that go down to the sea in ships, doing business in the great waters: 23 Others went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters.
(106-24) These have seen the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep. 24 They saw the works of the LORD, his wonderful deeds in the deep.
(106-25) He said the word, and there arose a storm of wind: and the waves thereof were lifted up. 25 For he spoke and stirred up a tempest that lifted high the waves.
(106-26) They mount up to the heavens, and they go down to the depths: their soul pined away with evils. 26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away.
(106-27) They were troubled, and reeled like a drunken man; and all their wisdom was swallowed up. 27 They reeled and staggered like drunken men; they were at their wits' end.
(106-28) And they cried to the Lord in their affliction: and he brought them out of their distresses. 28 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.
(106-29) And he turned the storm into a breeze: and its waves were still. 29 He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.
(106-30) And they rejoiced because they were still: and he brought them to the haven which they wished for. 30 They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.
(106-31) Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him, and his wonderful works to the children of men. 31 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.
(106-32) And let them exalt him in the church of the people: and praise him in the chair of the ancients. 32 Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders.
(106-33) He hath turned rivers into a wilderness: and the sources of waters into dry ground: 33 He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground,
(106-34) A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. 34 and fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who lived there.
(106-35) He hath turned a wilderness into pools of waters, and a dry land into water springs. 35 He turned the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs;
(106-36) And hath placed there the hungry; and they made a city for their habitation. 36 there he brought the hungry to live, and they founded a city where they could settle.
(106-37) Anti they sowed fields, and planted vineyards: and they yielded fruit of birth. 37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest;
(106-38) And he blessed them, and they were multiplied exceedingly: and their cattle he suffered not to decrease. 38 he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased, and he did not let their herds diminish.
(106-39) Then they were brought to be few: and they were afflicted through the trouble of evils and sorrow. 39 Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled by oppression, calamity and sorrow;
(106-40) Contempt was poured forth upon their princes: and he caused them to wander where there was no passing, and out of the way. 40 he who pours contempt on nobles made them wander in a trackless waste.
(106-41) And he helped the poor out of poverty: and made him families like a flock of sheep. 41 But he lifted the needy out of their affliction and increased their families like flocks.
(106-42) The just shall see, and shall rejoice, and all iniquity shall stop her mouth. 42 The upright see and rejoice, but all the wicked shut their mouths.
(106-43) Who is wise, and will keep these things; and will understand the mercies of the Lord? 43 Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the great love of the LORD.
