New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
For the choir director: A psalm of David. I trust in the LORD for protection. So why do you say to me, "Fly to the mountains for safety! 1 In the LORD I take refuge. How then can you say to me: "Flee like a bird to your mountain.
The wicked are stringing their bows and setting their arrows in the bowstrings. They shoot from the shadows at those who do right. 2 For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.
The foundations of law and order have collapsed. What can the righteous do?" 3 When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do ?"
But the LORD is in his holy Temple; the LORD still rules from heaven. He watches everything closely, examining everyone on earth. 4 The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD is on his heavenly throne. He observes the sons of men; his eyes examine them.
The LORD examines both the righteous and the wicked. He hates everyone who loves violence. 5 The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates.
He rains down blazing coals on the wicked, punishing them with burning sulfur and scorching winds. 6 On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot.
For the LORD is righteous, and he loves justice. Those who do what is right will see his face. 7 For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face.
