New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
A song for the ascent to Jerusalem. A psalm of David. I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD." 1 I rejoiced with those who said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD."
And now we are standing here inside your gates, O Jerusalem. 2 Our feet are standing in your gates, O Jerusalem.
Jerusalem is a well-built city, knit together as a single unit. 3 Jerusalem is built like a city that is closely compacted together.
All the people of Israel -- the LORD's people -- make their pilgrimage here. They come to give thanks to the name of the LORD as the law requires. 4 That is where the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, to praise the name of the LORD according to the statute given to Israel.
Here stand the thrones where judgment is given, the thrones of the dynasty of David. 5 There the thrones for judgment stand, the thrones of the house of David.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. May all who love this city prosper. 6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May those who love you be secure.
O Jerusalem, may there be peace within your walls and prosperity in your palaces. 7 May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels."
For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, "Peace be with you." 8 For the sake of my brothers and friends, I will say, "Peace be within you."
For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek what is best for you, O Jerusalem. 9 For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your prosperity.
