New Century Version (NCV) New International Version (NIV)
Lord, I look upward to you, you who live in heaven. 1 I lift up my eyes to you, to you whose throne is in heaven.
Slaves depend on their masters, and a female servant depends on her mistress. In the same way, we depend on the Lord our God; we wait for him to show us mercy. 2 As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy.
Have mercy on us, Lord. Have mercy on us, because we have been insulted. 3 Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt.
We have suffered many insults from lazy people and much cruelty from the proud. A song for going up to worship. Of David. 4 We have endured much ridicule from the proud, much contempt from the arrogant.
