New Century Version NCV
New International Version NIV
1 What if the Lord had not been on our side? (Let Israel repeat this.)
1
If the LORD had not been on our side— let Israel say—
2 What if the Lord had not been on our side when we were attacked?
2
if the LORD had not been on our side when people attacked us,
3 When they were angry with us, they would have swallowed us alive.
3
they would have swallowed us alive when their anger flared against us;
4 They would have been like a flood drowning us; they would have poured over us like a river.
4
the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us,
5 They would have swept us away like a mighty stream.
5
the raging waters would have swept us away.
6 Praise the Lord, who did not let them chew us up.
6
Praise be to the LORD, who has not let us be torn by their teeth.
7 We escaped like a bird from the hunter's trap. The trap broke, and we escaped.
7
We have escaped like a bird from the fowler’s snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped.
8 Our help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. A song for going up to worship.
8
Our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
