Douay-Rheims (RHE) New International Version (NIV)
(128-1) <A gradual canticle.> Often have they fought against me from my youth, let Israel now say. 1 They have greatly oppressed me from my youth-- let Israel say--
(128-2) Often have they fought against me from my youth: but they could not prevail over me. 2 they have greatly oppressed me from my youth, but they have not gained the victory over me.
(128-3) The wicked have wrought upon my back: they have lengthened their iniquity. 3 Plowmen have plowed my back and made their furrows long.
(128-4) The Lord who is just will cut the necks of sinners: 4 But the LORD is righteous; he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked.
(128-5) Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Sion. 5 May all who hate Zion be turned back in shame.
(128-6) Let them be as grass upon the tops of houses: which withereth before it be plucked up: 6 May they be like grass on the roof, which withers before it can grow;
(128-7) Who with the mower filleth not his hand: nor he that gathereth sheaves his bosom. 7 with it the reaper cannot fill his hands, nor the one who gathers fill his arms.
(128-8) And they that passed by have not said: The blessing of the Lord be upon you: we have blessed you in the name of the Lord. 8 May those who pass by not say, "The blessing of the LORD be upon you; we bless you in the name of the LORD."
