1 A song for the ascent to Jerusalem. From the depths of despair, O LORD, I call for your help.

1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD;
|

2 Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer.
|
2 O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.
|
|
3 LORD, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive?
|
3 If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?
|
|
4 But you offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear you.
|
4 But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared.
|

5 I am counting on the LORD; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.
|
5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope.
|

6 I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn.

6 My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

7 O Israel, hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is unfailing love and an overflowing supply of salvation.

7 O Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption.

8 He himself will free Israel from every kind of sin.

8 He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.
