Good News Translation (GNT) New International Version (NIV)
Save me, Lord, from evildoers; keep me safe from violent people. 1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence,
They are always plotting evil, always stirring up quarrels. 2 who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.
Their tongues are like deadly snakes; their words are like a cobra's poison. 3 They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent's; the poison of vipers is on their lips. "Selah"
Protect me, Lord, from the power of the wicked; keep me safe from violent people who plot my downfall. 4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
The proud have set a trap for me; they have laid their snares, and along the path they have set traps to catch me. 5 Proud men have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path. "Selah"
I say to the Lord, "You are my God." Hear my cry for help, Lord! 6 O LORD, I say to you, "You are my God." Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy.
My Sovereign Lord, my strong defender, you have protected me in battle. 7 O Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer, who shields my head in the day of battle--
Lord, don't give the wicked what they want; don't let their plots succeed. 8 do not grant the wicked their desires, O LORD; do not let their plans succeed, or they will become proud. "Selah"
Don't let my enemies be victorious; make their threats against me fall back on them. 9 Let the heads of those who surround me be covered with the trouble their lips have caused.
May red-hot coals fall on them; may they be thrown into a pit and never get out. 10 Let burning coals fall upon them; may they be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, never to rise.
May those who accuse others falsely not succeed; may evil overtake violent people and destroy them. 11 Let slanderers not be established in the land; may disaster hunt down men of violence.
Lord, I know that you defend the cause of the poor and the rights of the needy. 12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
The righteous will praise you indeed; they will live in your presence. 13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
