Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; Preserve me from violent men 1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence,
Who devise evil things in their hearts; They continually stir up wars. 2 who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.
They sharpen their tongues as a serpent; Poison of a viper is under their lips. Selah. 3 They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent's; the poison of vipers is on their lips. "Selah"
Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; Preserve me from violent men Who have purposed to trip up my feet. 4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
The proud have hidden a trap for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set snares for me. Selah. 5 Proud men have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path. "Selah"
I said to the LORD, "You are my God; Give ear, O LORD, to the voice of my supplications. 6 O LORD, I say to you, "You are my God." Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy.
"O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You have covered my head in the day of battle. 7 O Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer, who shields my head in the day of battle--
"Do not grant, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; Do not promote his evil device, that they not be exalted. Selah. 8 do not grant the wicked their desires, O LORD; do not let their plans succeed, or they will become proud. "Selah"
"As for the head of those who surround me, May the mischief of their lips cover them. 9 Let the heads of those who surround me be covered with the trouble their lips have caused.
"May burning coals fall upon them; May they be cast into the fire, Into deep pits from which they cannot rise. 10 Let burning coals fall upon them; may they be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, never to rise.
"May a slanderer not be established in the earth; May evil hunt the violent man speedily." 11 Let slanderers not be established in the land; may disaster hunt down men of violence.
I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted And justice for the poor. 12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
Surely the righteous will give thanks to Your name; The upright will dwell in Your presence. 13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
