American Standard Version (ASV) New International Version (NIV)
Jehovah, I have called upon thee; Make haste unto me: Give ear unto my voice, when I call unto thee. 1 O LORD, I call to you; come quickly to me. Hear my voice when I call to you.
Let my prayer be set forth as incense before thee; The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. 2 May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.
Set a watch, O Jehovah, before my mouth; Keep the door of my lips. 3 Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.
Incline not my heart to any evil thing, To practise deeds of wickedness With men that work iniquity: And let me not eat of their dainties. 4 Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil, to take part in wicked deeds with men who are evildoers; let me not eat of their delicacies.
Let the righteous smite me, [it shall be] a kindness; And let him reprove me, [it shall be as] oil upon the head; Let not my head refuse it: For even in their wickedness shall my prayer continue. 5 Let a righteous man strike me--it is a kindness; let him rebuke me--it is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it. Yet my prayer is ever against the deeds of evildoers;
Their judges are thrown down by the sides of the rock; And they shall hear my words; For they are sweet. 6 their rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs, and the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken.
As when one ploweth and cleaveth the earth, Our bones are scattered at the mouth of Sheol. 7 [They will say,] "As one plows and breaks up the earth, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave. "
For mine eyes are unto thee, O Jehovah the Lord: In thee do I take refuge; Leave not my soul destitute. 8 But my eyes are fixed on you, O Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge--do not give me over to death.
Keep me from the snare which they have laid for me, And from the gins of the workers of iniquity. 9 Keep me from the snares they have laid for me, from the traps set by evildoers.
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, Whilst that I withal escape. 10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety.
