The Webster Bible (WBT) New International Version (NIV)
To the chief Musician, [A Psalm] of David, the servant of the LORD, who spoke to the LORD the words of this song in the day [that] the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said, I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. 1 I love you, O LORD, my strength.
The LORD [is] my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, [and] my high tower. 2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I will call upon the LORD, [who is worthy] to be praised: so shall I be saved from my enemies. 3 I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.
The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. 4 The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
The sorrows of hell encompassed me: the snares of death seized me. 5 The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me.
In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, [even] into his ears. 6 In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.
Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth. 7 The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry.
There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it. 8 Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it.
He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness [was] under his feet. 9 He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet.
And he rode upon a cherub, and flew; yes, he flew upon the wings of the wind. 10 He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind.
He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion around him [were] dark waters [and] thick clouds of the skies. 11 He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him-- the dark rain clouds of the sky.
At the brightness [that was] before him his thick clouds passed, hail [stones] and coals of fire. 12 Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning.
The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail [stones] and coals of fire. 13 The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded.
Yes, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them. 14 He shot his arrows and scattered [the enemies], great bolts of lightning and routed them.
Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were uncovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils. 15 The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of breath from your nostrils.
He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters. 16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.
He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them who hated me: for they were too strong for me. 17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.
They attacked me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay. 18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support.
He brought me forth also in a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me. 19 He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.
The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me. 20 The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me.
For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. 21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I have not done evil by turning from my God.
For all his judgments [were] before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me. 22 All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees.
I was also upright before him, and I kept myself from my iniquity. 23 I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin.
Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. 24 The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.
With the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt show thyself upright; 25 To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless,
With the pure thou wilt show thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt contend. 26 to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd.
For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt bring down high looks. 27 You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty.
For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. 28 You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.
For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall. 29 With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.
[As for] God, his way [is] perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he [is] a buckler to all those that trust in him. 30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.
For who [is] God save the LORD? or who [is] a rock save our God? 31 For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God?
[It is] God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. 32 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.
He maketh my feet like hinds' [feet], and setteth me upon my high places. 33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights.
He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by my arms. 34 He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath held me up and thy gentleness hath made me great. 35 You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great.
Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip. 36 You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn.
I have pursued my enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed. 37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed.
I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they have fallen under my feet. 38 I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet.
For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me. 39 You armed me with strength for battle; you made my adversaries bow at my feet.
Thou hast also given me the necks of my enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me. 40 You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes.
They cried, but [there was] none to save [them]: [even] to the LORD, but he answered them not. 41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them-- to the LORD, but he did not answer.
Then I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I cast them out as the dirt in the streets. 42 I beat them as fine as dust borne on the wind; I poured them out like mud in the streets.
Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; [and] thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people [whom] I have not known shall serve me. 43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations; people I did not know are subject to me.
As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves to me. 44 As soon as they hear me, they obey me; foreigners cringe before me.
The strangers shall fade away, and be afraid from their close places. 45 They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds.
The LORD liveth; and blessed [be] my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted. 46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!
[It is] God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me. 47 He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me,
He delivereth me from my enemies: yes, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man. 48 who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from violent men you rescued me.
Therefore will I give thanks to thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises to thy name. 49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises to your name.
He giveth great deliverance to his king; and showeth mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for ever. 50 He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever.
