| 1 (20-1) <Unto the end. A psalm for David.> (20-2) In thy strength, O Lord, the king shall joy; and in thy salvation he shall rejoice exceedingly. | 1 O LORD, the king rejoices in your strength. How great is his joy in the victories you give! |
| 2 (20-3) Thou hast given him his heart’s desire: and hast not withholden from him the will of his lips. | 2 You have granted him the desire of his heart and have not withheld the request of his lips. "Selah" |
| 3 (20-4) For thou hast prevented him with blessings of sweetness: thou hast set on his head a crown of precious stones. | 3 You welcomed him with rich blessings and placed a crown of pure gold on his head. |
| 4 (20-5) He asked life of thee: and thou hast given him length of days for ever and ever. | 4 He asked you for life, and you gave it to him-- length of days, for ever and ever. |
| 5 (20-6) His glory is great in thy salvation: glory and great beauty shalt thou lay upon him. | 5 Through the victories you gave, his glory is great; you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty. |
| 6 (20-7) For thou shalt give him to be a blessing for ever and ever: thou shalt make him joyful in gladness with thy countenance. | 6 Surely you have granted him eternal blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence. |
| 7 (20-8) For the king hopeth in the Lord: and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved. | 7 For the king trusts in the LORD; through the unfailing love of the Most High he will not be shaken. |
| 8 (20-9) Let thy hand be found by all thy enemies: let thy right hand find out all them that hate thee. | 8 Your hand will lay hold on all your enemies; your right hand will seize your foes. |
| 9 (20-10) Thou shalt make them as an oven of fire, in the time of thy anger: the Lord shall trouble them in his wrath, and fire shall devour them. | 9 At the time of your appearing you will make them like a fiery furnace. In his wrath the LORD will swallow them up, and his fire will consume them. |
| 10 (20-11) Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth: and their seed from among the children of men. | 10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth, their posterity from mankind. |
| 11 (20-12) For they have intended evils against thee: they have devised counsels which they have not been able to establish. | 11 Though they plot evil against you and devise wicked schemes, they cannot succeed; |
| 12 (20-13) For thou shalt make them turn their back: in thy remnants thou shalt prepare their face. | 12 for you will make them turn their backs when you aim at them with drawn bow. |
| 13 (20-14) Be thou exalted, O Lord, in thy own strength: we will sing and praise thy power. | 13 Be exalted, O LORD, in your strength; we will sing and praise your might. |
