Psalm 22 GNT/NIV - Online Parallel Bible

Good News Translation (GNT) New International Version (NIV)
My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? I have cried desperately for help, but still it does not come. 1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?
During the day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer; I call at night, but get no rest. 2 O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent.
But you are enthroned as the Holy One, the one whom Israel praises. 3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel.
Our ancestors put their trust in you; they trusted you, and you saved them. 4 In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them.
They called to you and escaped from danger; they trusted you and were not disappointed. 5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.
But I am no longer a human being; I am a worm, despised and scorned by everyone! 6 But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people.
All who see me make fun of me; they stick out their tongues and shake their heads. 7 All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads:
"You relied on the Lord," they say. "Why doesn't he save you? If the Lord likes you, why doesn't he help you?" 8 "He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him."
It was you who brought me safely through birth, and when I was a baby, you kept me safe. 9 Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother's breast.
I have relied on you since the day I was born, and you have always been my God. 10 From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God.
Do not stay away from me! Trouble is near, and there is no one to help. 11 Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.
Many enemies surround me like bulls; they are all around me, like fierce bulls from the land of Bashan. 12 Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.
They open their mouths like lions, roaring and tearing at me. 13 Roaring lions tearing their prey open their mouths wide against me.
My strength is gone, gone like water spilled on the ground. All my bones are out of joint; my heart is like melted wax. 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me.
My throat is as dry as dust, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You have left me for dead in the dust. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death.
An evil gang is around me; like a pack of dogs they close in on me; they tear at my hands and feet. 16 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet.
All my bones can be seen. My enemies look at me and stare. 17 I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me.
They gamble for my clothes and divide them among themselves. 18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.
O Lord, don't stay away from me! Come quickly to my rescue! 19 But you, O LORD, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me.
Save me from the sword; save my life from these dogs. 20 Deliver my life from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs.
Rescue me from these lions; I am helpless before these wild bulls. 21 Rescue me from the mouth of the lions; save me from the horns of the wild oxen.
I will tell my people what you have done; I will praise you in their assembly: 22 I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you.
"Praise him, you servants of the Lord! Honor him, you descendants of Jacob! Worship him, you people of Israel! 23 You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!
He does not neglect the poor or ignore their suffering; he does not turn away from them, but answers when they call for help." 24 For he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help.
In the full assembly I will praise you for what you have done; in the presence of those who worship you I will offer the sacrifices I promised. 25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you will I fulfill my vows.
The poor will eat as much as they want; those who come to the Lord will praise him. May they prosper forever! 26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise him-- may your hearts live forever!
All nations will remember the Lord. From every part of the world they will turn to him; all races will worship him. 27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,
The Lord is king, and he rules the nations. 28 for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations.
All proud people will bow down to him; all mortals will bow down before him. 29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him-- those who cannot keep themselves alive.
Future generations will serve him; they will speak of the Lord to the coming generation. 30 Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord.
People not yet born will be told: "The Lord saved his people." 31 They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn-- for he has done it.
