New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
A psalm of David. To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul. 1 To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul;
I trust in you, my God! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat. 2 in you I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me.
No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others. 3 No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous without excuse.
Show me the path where I should walk, O LORD; point out the right road for me to follow. 4 Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths;
Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. 5 guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
Remember, O LORD, your unfailing love and compassion, which you have shown from long ages past. 6 Remember, O LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.
Forgive the rebellious sins of my youth; look instead through the eyes of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O LORD. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O LORD.
The LORD is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray. 8 Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
He leads the humble in what is right, teaching them his way. 9 He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.
The LORD leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all those who keep his covenant and obey his decrees. 10 All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful for those who keep the demands of his covenant.
For the honor of your name, O LORD, forgive my many, many sins. 11 For the sake of your name, O LORD, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.
Who are those who fear the LORD? He will show them the path they should choose. 12 Who, then, is the man that fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the way chosen for him.
They will live in prosperity, and their children will inherit the Promised Land. 13 He will spend his days in prosperity, and his descendants will inherit the land.
Friendship with the LORD is reserved for those who fear him. With them he shares the secrets of his covenant. 14 The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.
My eyes are always looking to the LORD for help, for he alone can rescue me from the traps of my enemies. 15 My eyes are ever on the LORD, for only he will release my feet from the snare.
Turn to me and have mercy on me, for I am alone and in deep distress. 16 Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.
My problems go from bad to worse. Oh, save me from them all! 17 The troubles of my heart have multiplied; free me from my anguish.
Feel my pain and see my trouble. Forgive all my sins. 18 Look upon my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins.
See how many enemies I have, and how viciously they hate me! 19 See how my enemies have increased and how fiercely they hate me!
Protect me! Rescue my life from them! Do not let me be disgraced, for I trust in you. 20 Guard my life and rescue me; let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
May integrity and honesty protect me, for I put my hope in you. 21 May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope is in you.
O God, ransom Israel from all its troubles. 22 Redeem Israel, O God, from all their troubles!
